Our state requires Earth science, physcial science and biology for graduation.
We have a physcial science and biology programs that I use but I am looking for ideas for earth science. One year on of my children did the book that Seton offers but that was pretty boring.
Any ideas...?
Thanks,

I have many suggestions on my
Earth Science page. Few if any are text books.
For us Catholics, I especially recommend a book called Seashell on the Mountaintop, which, despite being a secular account, is a wonderful biography of Bl. Niels Steno (is it saint now?), the father of modern geology. I also recommend the Roadside Geology series for your state. The US Geological Survey and industries related to earth science have free materials that they would love to send you (some links on my page). For field trips, earth science offers more variety than you can imagine, from caves to mines, to mountains to beaches and glaciers , earth science is observable everywhere.

He's still a blessed as far as I can tell. Heart and Mind magazine has a unit study on him in the Summer 2004 issue - Neils Stenson: Scientist and Saint

If you want a program to follow, MODG has a syllabus for earth science. I don't like texty science but still want some structure, and MODG has fit the bill nicely for us.

Thanks MacBeth! They have that book in our library!!!
We're doing MODG too. I'm deciding whether to do it this year for 8th, and count it as High School Science, or to wait until 9th grade and do Biology in 10th, and Chemistry in 11th. Hmmmm.....anyway, I have MODG all set to go.
We will NOT do Apologia though for anything for our daughter, because it won't work for her.

We started high school science in the 8th grade so that we'd have room to do the year of Natural History MODG has without losing time for advanced sciences. I loved the NH syllabus, and after skimming the Biology syllabus for this fall, I really like the look of it as well. I am very bummed that MODG doesn't have Chemistry or Physics syllabi that don't rely on Apologia.

MacBeth,
I just found "Seashell on the Mountiantop" on one of my bookshelves. I forgot that I had picked it up at a sale a couple of years ago. . Guess I should check my bookshelves more often.
Thanks for the info on the other books too. I think I can pull together a unit for the kids now!
God bless,
