I was looking for a good book to use as a botany/biology book spine for 9/10th grade science. We really want to do a good unit on botany and then take on biology. Anything you can recommend??

No help from me Donna. I've been perusing and getting as confused on botany as I did on animals. Seems the DNA stuff is making much that is out there obsolete or something - and I just found out after ordering some stuff that someone else since told me won't be useful.

I'm looking for information for use with ages 5 through high school. (Obviously not the same books will suffice but I'd like them to not contradict each other so that my high schoolers can revert to the easier stuff as needed for background info.

I'll be watching any responses you get on your thread. I think that a course on the history of science would be quite interesting. I have enough material in my house to start making some comparisions

nothing!

I sort of unschooled science this year because of the baby. They read a lot of science-related books on many topics. many of those books were the science behind the science books...why we should study chemistry and what people do with it etc. ( I am really tired today and I am trying to explain what we did...kinda..oh bear with me and ask questions

Now we are going to cover Botany starting next week using the Exploring Creation with Botany book as a spine and branching off of that with a lot of living books...so this will be part of what my 15yodds will use along side of the younger ones. They will just go more in-depth. We will be learning about many related things including organic sustainable gardening. We are planting a Square Foot garden this spring here and we are one of the primary families spearheading a community garden at our church.

The older children 15yo dd twins and 13yo ds are very involved with these projects and are going to have a strong hand in all aspects of it...including how to dry, can and preserve the produce, grow herbs and make them into teas, seasoning mixes, and medicinal type things.

I am STILL looking for advice on a spine!

I just want to make sure I cover all I need to for college. We are definitely schooling over the summer on an abbreviated schedule. We need to.

I'd like a suggested Botany spine, as well. I just ordered a vintage copy of Golden Guide to Botany, after reading this blog and looking at the pics.

I can't recommend it yet, but I have high hopes. :)
