Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Good morning! Wondering if anyone could help out:

1. Are sandals "formal wear"? When I was growing up formal strictly meant "closed shoes". No peeky toe, no sandals. Have things changed? I feel so old

2. Any sites/books you could recommend, or just some basic tips on "date etiquette"? I have a few things in mind, and just wanted to make sure I kept it simple, but cover all bases

As you may have already guessed, my eldest is attending her first prom. So if you have any other suggestions/words of advice to a mom going through this the first time, please share!

When my dd went to the prom last year, many of the girls wore shoes that were open toed or strappy shoes.

Strappy sandals are definitely formal these days. Any chances of a dancing lesson with Dad before she goes? Before each high school dance I attended, I would try on my dress for my Dad and we would practice dancing. Those memories are more fond than the dance memories, and they gave me so much confidence before the "big date".

Strappy shoes are definitely formal wear nowadays - and as for date etiquette I don't know. Have you done an online search? ( My personal answer to nearly everything! )

Thank you all!! She got really nice silver ones.   They were on sale too!!

Colleen, love the suggestion about dancing lessons. Unfortunately, none of us really know how to dance except for a regular ol' waltz. Ballroom dancing lessons are on dh and my list of "things to do" when the children are grown. Altho, if you have any online sites that have crash course tutorial videos, please pass along!
