Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello!

Can anyone share their opinion or experience with MODG Natural Science Syllabus? (The plain one - without Biology add on.) I'm considering it for my non-science 12th grader and sciency 8th graders to use together next year. It sounds very CMish? Is it something the mother can simply "oversee" and not have to actually teach?

Any and all thoughts are SO appreciated!!!!

Thanks in advance!

I am in the process of using it this year with my 9th grader. I do know that several on the forum have used it in the past. Although it is recommended for 10th grade, my ds really enjoyed it. We had to stop at the experiment because we live in a rental and he wants to do an observation that requires a hamster! We will soon be in our own home, and he can continue.

I found it to be a program that I can loosely supervise. My ds is a take charge student and really does not want me to "interfere" with his learning ... even when he needs it. But it works great for children who are motivated and want to learn. And he became a better naturalist as a result. I recommend it!

We found it to be very easy for dc to do on their own. IMO, it is a bit "light" but this dc needed that. I think if a student is going to be a science "major" in college, they might want to do this one in conjunction with biology and not as a seperate course. Lots of nature study, drawing, and reading living books.

Thank you both so very much!

Carole - we were renters until July of last year when we bought a darling, little house of our own. (Hurrah! LOL, we've been married almost 20 years.) Our landlord permitted a dog (who, sadly died a few weeks ago) and my eldest had a secret pet pygmy dumbo rat (a sweet little girl rat who died, sadly, on Easter morning). Now we have a house we have a cat, a new dog and a bird. I don't think they'll be another rat, though.

Lisa - I love all your funny smileys in your signature! I'm glad to know the MODG syllabus is light, it might be just the thing for my 8th grader & non-science 12th grader to do together next year. My husband has picked out a very nice course on Earth Science from the Teaching Company (How the Earth Works, I believe) for our children to watch (30 minute lecture) several times per week, to give them practice watching lectures and taking notes (he's going to teach them some methods). But I'd like to do something more hands-on with them, and Nature Study is about as sciencey as my brain is capable of getting! :)

Thank you both! I'm getting ready to place some orders and I want to try to have all my ducks in a row. This will be our 15th year and I never feel sure of myself at this stage!
