Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

we just got a book yesterday that is wonderful. By John Zmirak, Choosing the Right College: 2008-09 is a great book that covers 134 of the best schools ... 40 of the most selective national universities (of course, LSU is in the list ) and 35 most selective liberal arts colleges (as ranked by USNews and World Report) and then an additional 59 specialty colleges. It doesn't have them all but it does have intersting info and detailed ocverage of the ones it does discuss: vital stats (tuition, etc), core requirements, discussions about curriculum, "red flags" for puff or other questionably academic coursework, etc.

The schools are divided up regionally so if your student wants to stay or go to a certain area, the schools included are easily found. Here's a link to the ISI website where you can find further info: ISI's college guide.

Thanks, Mary. I am a big fan of ISI. This book looks great for Trip, who is not (thank goodness) looking to go to a conservatory.

Dh works for ISI, and they tell me the new guide All American Colleges (it is linked on the page you posted) is good, too, for those looking for a school strong in the liberal arts.

While the regular college guide provides insight into how top schools measure up (or how to utilize said school to get the type of education you want), this new guide is more of a list of schools that are highly recommended. Often, it is the smaller more obscure schools that provide this sort of environment, but there just isn't room to squeeze them all into the regular college guide.
