My dd is finishing up her freshman year, and we are beginning to look ahead to next year's classes. While we are leaning toward doing a year of Brit Lit, I'm curious as to whether anyone out there has found/used a good resource for literary analysis? This year she did public speaking and grammar/composition, so I really want to focus on this area next year. I'll be looking forward to reading some of your ideas!

Catholic Heritage Curricula has five Catholic Great Books Study Guides; we used this one. It was useful for making sense of a book that has no real chapters, and it had a lot of comprehension questions, vocab, geography questions (the book is about a pilgrimage), etc.
We have also used Novel Inquiries, written by Margot Davidson; we used her study guide for Julius Caesar last year and I really liked it.

I like the look of the Sonlight British Literature course - the booklist and the discussions. We haven't used it but, havibg seen it, its always in the back of my mind...

Bravewriter has help for high school that is suppose to have literary anaylsis. I haven't see it but it sounds good.

I've been putting up links/posts related to literary analysis at my high-school English blog, Abandon Hopefully. We're doing ancient and classical literature this year, but next year my plan is to do Beowulf-Milton (roughly . . . definitely the roots of English lit through the end of the Renaissance and hopefully beyond).
I could probably do a better job of transferring my class notes (this blog is connected with a real-life co-op class I'm teaching) onto the blog, and this isn't a complete resource by any means, but I'm working towards making it a high-school English clearinghouse for literature, composition, and grammar (mostly right now I just have grammar-stickler kinds of posts up).
Anyway, we're having lots of fun in the real-life class, and the blog is fun (for me!), too. Right now we're moving into talking about philosophy -- come visit!

I had posted a reply to this thread some time ago, and just wanted to update by saying that, as an outgrowth of the high-school co-op class I'm teaching in real life this year, I'm going to be developing two online literature survey classes (with a composition component and a little grammar) for next year. We're moving, and I wanted a way to keep the cycle going that I'd started this year with my little group, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I wanted to do . . .
I'll be using my Abandon Hopefully blog as a bulletin board, as I do this year, for assignments, lecture notes, links, etc, with a week's worth of work each week. Next year's new course will be a survey of Western literature (mostly but not exclusively English) from Celtic and Norse myths to the 17th century and Paradise Lost. I'll also be archiving this year's ancient and classical lit survey for easy access and re-use. We're currently working on a term paper, so I'll also archive that as a freestanding unit for anyone to use.
Now, all this stuff will be available to use on your own, but you can also register your child for a moderated (by me) discussion yahoo group for either class: ancient and classical literature, or Western literature through Milton. I'd also like to offer a moderated seminar -- this year's will be a J.R.R. Tolkien seminar, moderated by a good friend of ours who frequently guest-lectures in my husband's university classes -- as another option, if we get enough interest. This might make a great senior literature option, for a child who's already read through most of the Western canon and would like a more in-depth experience.
We're doing this pretty much as a labor of love -- I really do love doing things like this -- so there will be no tuition charges. All books for the survey classes will be available as free e-texts online, but if people want to buy books, buying them through the Amazon links on the blogsite will be a way of helping support our efforts!
Anyway, I've been busy working on all this and wanted to share. More information will be forthcoming, so check in at Abandon Hopefully over the next few weeks as I hammer out details.

Another vote for Novel Inquiries. DD-16 has used them for Till We Have Faces and one more book which I can't remember right now  . Margot's stuff is wonderful!!

I am loving Novel Inquiries. I love especially the discussion parts. I love how Margot incorporates the CCC and the Bible along with Perelandra! Thanks for your votes ladies. We are really enjoying it!
I hope Margot comes out with more volumes:)

This is an old thread, but just thought I'd bump it up, in case anyone's still looking for high-school English resources. My online class is in full swing, and there's lots of stuff up on my English blog about Anglo-Saxon poetry, including Beowulf: syllabi, discussion questions, some writing prompts, etc. This week we're doing some grammar; next week we'll be plunging into our first 5-paragraph essay of the year.Feel free to follow along with us!
Chari -- the Tolkien group is also up, though not that active right now. The main moderator's a bit overwhelmed by his first semester in grad school, but I may weigh in a little soon to get it going again.

I just printed out all the assignments I could find from your Ancient History/Lit course last year -- they look great!  Thank you so much for making this available to everyone. I think dd and I are going to enjoy this.

Great! I'm so glad this can be useful to somebody besides me. I love that the internet gives me a way to keep up with my real-life class from last year (the lessons from last year are a bit sketchier, because I was teaching the class in person), but also makes what we're doing available to anyone who might need the same resources.
