Hey folks! In lieu of a transcript, or in addition to a parent-compiled transcript, colleges want a list of books read/used by the homeschooler in the course of her high school career...blah blah blah....
This is turning out to be a rather lengthy addition to her portfolio  , and I am wondering which would be the best way to organize such a list--by subject, and then year; or by year, and then subject? They key, of course, is to get the thing read--especially since we use a living books approach to all topics, including math--without frightening, or worse, boring the admissions folks. 
Thoughts?

I think I would go year by year, and then subject by subject. Breaking it down into small chunks (years of school) will make it more visually appealing to their eyes. Plus, they are used to seeing each year at a glance on regular transcripts.
They will not be bored, unless it is a giant list.
They WILL be in AWE.

I agree. I'd separate by year first, then by subject. It will be harder to read if you list 4 years worth of botany books, for instance, at a time.
Thanks for the head's up. I'll make sure to keep good records of books read from this point on!

We did year-by-year, broken down further by subject. We had no problems at all.

I'd go with year-by-year and then subjects within the year ... that would be how "real schools" do it so what colleges would be looking for....

We arranged things year-by-year and within each year subject-by-subject, so it became sort of a read-along appendix that followed the organization of the list of courses and grades that looked like a *regular* high school transcript. Does that explanation make any sense?

Sue! How are you?
PM me tomorrow to nag me, and I'll send you Libby's transcript (on my other computer). I ended up doing a transcript using HSLDA's form, and typing up 4 lists of subjects with books, grade by grade. Along with supplemental info, transcripts from outside coursework, sealed recommendations, a cover letter, grade scale, and CDs or DVDs, these were pretty hefty packets.
I was soooooo happy to get it all done!
