Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope this all makes sense:

I am looking for some recommendations as to Old Testament courses for an advanced high schooler - either something that could be added to for a more intense (almost college-level)study, or something deep that could be lightened in needed areas.

She's willing to do online courses, paper-based, or any other home-study option, including simply recommended textbooks and other resources that she and I could develop her own course of study - just something she could start soon (in the next few weeks) rather than being on someone else's schedule.

Thank you in advance and God Bless!

~Jessica

I searched and searched for Catholic Old Testament resources, with the idea of studying typology and how events in the New Testament were often prefigured in the Old Testament (in the hopes of doing a family OT Timeline/Unit Study).

Here are a few of the books we discovered:
"The Church in the Pentateuch, A Bible Study Course", by Anne Carroll and Jeanne Heppner
"History's Golden Thread, The History of Salvation"; by Sofia Cavalletti
"A Father Who Keeps His Peromises, God's Covenant Love in Scripture", by Scott Hahn

There's also a bible study series, by Jeff Cavins, "The Great Adventure, A Journey Through the Bible", by Jeff Cavins, which sounds wonderful, complete with a video series by the same title. We have the supplement, which lists the books of the Bible covered: Gen, Ex, Num, Josh, Judg, I Sam, II Sam, 1 Kgs, II Kgs, Ezra, Nehe, 1Macc, Luke, Acts.

Maybe there's a parish near you that has some of these resources in their library, or perhaps there's a Catholic university that would allow you to borrow them through interloean!

I think rchistory may have some of these resources...I can't remember where I found them at the time!

Please share what you end up doing...I'd like to resurrect the OT timeline project we envisioned!

My parish is doing this course by Scott Hahn, Understanding The Scriptures. Click on the area that says course and you can hear what they have talked about chapter by chapter. The book is beautiful and was mailed to me very quickly.
