OK...so as not to scandalize my friends with anti-squirrel bias, I want to start a thread to share favorite squirrel books. Along with acorns a great fall topic  . There are some really cute squirrel books. This one almost (I said almost) makes me feel something less than total distain for them.
Earl the Squirrel (Don Freeman)
And I do love Miss Suzy (Miriam Young)!

LOL! Yes, very accommodating of you, Mary!
I don't think I can add to the squirrel book list. You ladies got them all, I think !But I will think on it some more.
And an owl unit would be pretty popular right now with that new Guardians movie coming out. I KNOW with Mary around we have some old threads we could revive!

I see a number of books we love and a few new ones to check out! : )
One of my daughters favorite books right now is Sleepy Squirrel. It is a short book, but a lovely one. : )

Thanks for all the recommendations. I am sure my squirrel-loving children will be happy to see some of these titles when they arrive from the library. I guess we're going to be following a squirrel trail.

When I was putting Earl the Squirrel on hold, I noticed that our library will be getting One More Acorn. Don Freeman's son finished his father's unfinished second book about Earl the squirrel.

Christine, thanks for sharing this info - great news. I do love Earl the Squirrel and the story about it being published 25 years after Don Freeman's death is really interesting. I'm excited to see more of these unpublished and partial finished stories come to life.  I just reserved a copy from our library. Thanks again!!

Squirrels - Brian Wildsmith
Well, this is a spendy, oop print book, but just got it from interlibrary loan. It gives general behavioral and biological info about squirrels - the good and the bad side of squirrels is presented.

This isn't completely about a squirrel, but a squirrel, hedgehoge, and bear are waiting to see snow before their hibernation.
Waiting for Winter by Sebastian Meschenmoser. The illustrations of the animals are a bit unique -- took me awhile to realize the artist was drawing "tired" eyes -- the animals are having a hard time shutting down.
This is a hilarious book. I've mentioned it before in another thread.

This is one of our favorite winter books, too, Jenn! We discovered it at a flea market one year. There it was - unceremoniously hidden under a pile of other books. We brought it home and read it every year at this time. It's a real delight and I find the illustrations to be quite intriguing, too!
