for my 13 year old daughter! Ella loves to read, but is having a hard time finding good books. She has read a LOT of fantasy books, so something from another genre would be good!

She is kind of stuck on fantasy! I don't think a steady diet of fantasy is good for her, so am looking for some other books for her. She dosen't wan't romance, but other than that, I am stuck! She has read all of the Jules Verne books, has read Les Miserables, and all of Tolkein's books. In other words, what would your teenaged girl like?

Well my 13 yr old hasn't read Jules Verne or Les Miserables or Tolkein (though she was just asking me where those are the other day)..
I would look at some of the other classics like Little Women and Anne of Green Gables and Johnny Tremain and such like.

I hear you about the fantasy, I have to try and restrict my ds15 (I'd love to exchange fantasy titles later)
Would your dd be interested in historical fiction, or perhaps mystery? My dd16 is an avid reader but very eclectic.

You could also get some GREAT IDEAS from Sonlight 130:...that link is for independent reading for her age. )Click on "independent items" tab. Or you could go "back" a year or two and look at the Read Aloud Lists....the "content" for REad Alouds is more advanced than the books for independent reads. She sounds like she's a great reader....so some of these books would be "easy" for her....but the stories are just SO WONDERFUL.....she'd get "sucked in" and really enjoy reading them! In a way....this is what you want....you want her to LOVE LOVE LOVE the content and the story, even if the reading level is a bit below her! She's got to realize that there is just so much more than fantasy (which is fine, of course....in moderation!) But, get her turned on the great stories about wonderful characters.
And, then throw in a couple more challenging books for her from the MA or Ambleside list to challenge her reading....IF she's looking for that.
HTH a bit,

And, thought I'd mention this too....there are LOTS of links in this thread....Online Booklists that could help you find some great books!
And, don't forget about the Amazon feature....Customers who bought this item also bought.... There are usually PAGES and PAGES of them....click on the arrow on the right side. If you find a book she really likes, use this feature to find other possible titles.
Also, down at the very bottom of each "book page" at Amazon, there are the LISTMANIA LISTS....it will show you people's listmania lists with THAT BOOK in it, and lots of times, there are other books on that list that are similar or have a certain theme that people have lumped together. It's VERY HELPFUL in finding books.
And, also the So you'd like to.... lists. ie: so you'd like to learn more about "Girls growing up during the Pioneer Days" Voila.....a million books about pioneer girls...say, if your daughter wants more books like this and it's an interest for her.

Thank you all so much! I have been feeling kind of stuck on this question. Part of the problem is that I just don't have the time to preview all of her books anymore! So, getting such great lists from people I feel as if I can trust on this topic, is HUGE! She will have a long list to chose from next time we go to the library. And, Suzanne, I agree that she has to be able to read at a lower level and just get sucked in and enjoy the story! I am hoping that is what will happen!

I've been looking through a new Emmanual Books catalog and found a lot of books (tons of history) I'd like to give my kiddos that I don't necessarily feel like I'd have to preview. I'm not sure what grade she would be but I guess it's worth checking out.

Also, Seton http://www.setonbooks.com/index.php?&cookietest=true. On their home page, you can also see what they list as the books for your daughter's grade.

I'm also thinking perhaps some Jack London or Mark Twain.
