Its been driving me crazy for days now. I kept thinking St. John Neumann, which is the same time period, but I consider him to be more of an American saint (even though he was an immigrant from Germany).

Hmmmmmmmmmmm...reading that Wikipedia, I realize he is Venerable, not a saint. That would explain some of my confusion.

I wonder if he is listed in any children's/teen level compilation books?

~Books, they are really easy to mix-up. So many similarities in the names, time period, both in the hierarchy. I was recently trying to distinguish between them in a little rabbit trail here.

John Henry Newman was only declared venerable in 1991 so wasn't so much on the radar for those older book series like Vision. For those folks who weren't already saints the Vision Book series really only covered Catholic historical figures who were associated with North America.

I did just post a complete listing of the Vision Books (both reprinted and oop) so we have it here for reference when looking for a subject that might be covered in the series.

Still looking for a children's book source for you for J.H. Newman.

So, can someone tell me about the Dujarie series? I have never even heard of these. Is it a picture book or a chapter book and what are they like?

...And is there a chance there's one on GK Chesterton as well...she asks sheepishly...

Dujarie Press books were written by the Brothers of the Holy Cross (I think that was the order) down at Notre Dame. Some of their titles have been reprinted by Newman Press and another independent publisher. They are rare. They had several reading levels as you can see on the website, the early readers are especially inspiring.

There are over 300 titles, they must have had these Brothers writing in their sleep! I prefer the originals to the reprints for aesthetic reasons, they are very well written and from the "old school" saint stories.

oops, you asked are they picture books, no, they do have some pictures but they are not picture books. Level one books are great for your beginning readers.
