Thank you for this reminder. My grandmother was born a few mile from Knock. I would love to hear some ideas.

August 21 is the feast of Our Lady of Knock, and that's the day before the Queenship of Mary.
Alice had a thread.
Meredith has a nice post on Our Lady of Knock.
Kathryn did Our Lady Around the World, first at First Heralds included OL of Knock and then her blog
That's all I could find. Not much.

Here is
our feast day from a couple of years ago.
This year I will add fresh Bells of Ireland from my gardens.

Below is a copy of a handout I created listing some ideas for celebrating Our Lady of Knock. My footnotes to sources wouldn't copy in and I don't know how to make the links work in this post but I hope it helps someone. I did find a lovely holy card for Our Lady of Knock which we will place in the center of our dining room table.
Happy feast day today!!
Our Lady of Knock
August 21
Explanation:
* On August 21, 1879, in a small town in western Ireland, Our Lady along with St. Joseph and St. John appeared to about 15 people. They did not speak to the crowd but instead stood quietly in prayer. Today, a shrine stands at the site of the apparition and the apparition is one of nine apparitions of our Lady approved by the Church.
* One of my favorite web sites for information on the Apparitions of Our Lady is www.marypages.com/mainframeEnglish.html The site has lots of great links.
* The Shrine of Our Lady of Knock in Ireland has a nice website with historical and novena information - www.knock-shrine.ie
* My favorite source for reading the stories of the apparitions to children is the book, Journeys with Mary, Apparitions of Our Lady by Zerlina De Santis. It is part of the Encounter the Saints Series published by Pauline Books. I purchased the book at Leaflet Missal (www.leafletonline.com) for about $6. It is not a picture book but it does tell the story of each of the nine approved apparitions of Mary in a way children can understand.
Prayer:
Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to your people in a time of distress, and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son, remembering His promise, "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find."
Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick, lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the Holy Mass. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.
Decorations:
* The liturgical color for Marian Feast Days is white. Use a white cloth on your table or home altar or use white place mats or napkins.
* For a centerpiece or in a prominent location, use a blue or white candle or candles. You could also use a white pillar candle with a blue ribbon tied around it.
* Set out a holy card or small figurine of Our Lady of Knock.
* The lovely smell of hyacinths is a nice addition to the home on a Marian feast day. Consider placing either a blue or white potted hyacinth out where it can be enjoyed.
Activities:
* Locate Ireland on a map.
* Make an Our Lady of Knock grotto. Place an image of Our Lady of Knock (a holy card or art print out) either in a box or glue it onto a piece of cardboard. Let the children decorate the inside, outside, and edges of the box or the edges around the piece of cardboard with artificial flowers, jewels, pom-poms or whatever crafts you have handy. My kids like to use popsicle sticks to make houses around the grottos.
Food:
* Any Irish food would be fun. A couple of Irish recipes, including ones for a beef and Guiness stew and Irish soda bread can be found at: www.catholiccuisine.blogspot.com/search/label/St.%20Patrick
* Blueberry muffins for breakfast or snack might be fun - blue and white being the colors associated with Mary. You could also do blueberries with pancakes or waffles.

I also wanted to let everyone know that there is a lovely article on Our Lady of Knock at the Faith and Family Live website (www.faithandfamilylive.com/). Click on the Features tab and it can be found there. At the end of the article there are several links to other sites with information on Our Lady of Knock.
