Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm feeling pretty stupid ... I bought a statue for somebody a long time ago and just came across it this weekend, but I cannot figure out who it is!   I've done online searches with no luck, and it's probably pretty obvious but I just can't put a name to it.

I don't have a blog to post the picture of it, but I will do my best to describe it. First, he has the holy circle behind his head (is there a name for that?) and he is holding a book. (It doesn't say Bible on it, but I assume it is.)   There is nothing else unique about this statue. I'm thinking it's Jesus since I don't see saint statues, other than Mary and Joseph, with the gold holy circle behind the heads; but it doesn't seem like it could be Jesus since His statues are obviously Him! ;-)

Does anybody have any ideas & could help me figure this out?   Thanks!

What color of a robe is he wearing? If he is wearing black and white it might be St. Dominic or St. Thomas Aquinas. However, there are lots of saints depicted with books. I can't remember any images of Jesus holding a book. The gold circle is called a halo. Usually saint statues don't have them, but it isn't out of the ordinary to have them either.

Oh, I meant to ask, is the book open, and if it is are there any words (maybe in Latin) on it?

HALO? I obviously had a major brain freeze when writing my original post!

In answer to the questions, the book is closed and upon closer look I noticed it has "REQ" on it.

Statue looks like Jesus ... wearing a green robe with a red "sash" over it.

What name of Jesus could this be?

Thanks for the help in solving my mystery!

MYSTERY SOLVED!

I contacted the company whose label is on the bottom of the box with the old item #, and they tell me that it is Christ the Teacher! Hmmmm...

Thanks for your help today!   Now I need to figure out who I bought this for ....

(I really *am* an organized person! )

Blessings to you!
