Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this curriculum?

I don't, but a mom in our hs group went with Calvert this year. She had a new baby, #6, and concerns about having the time to adequately plan for her older dc. She said she really likes it. I will email and ask her for more details, or if there is anything you want to know in particular, I can ask her that, too.

God Bless,
Stacy in MI

Hi Jen -

I have taught 17 child-years of Calvert. It is very thorough, classical, school-at-homeish. There is a lot of work, but it is productive work, not busy work. It is not especially flexible, particularly if you are using the Advisory Teacher Service because then you need to do all the lessons so that you be prepared for all the tests, which you have to send in. The tests occur every 20 lessons and are very thorough. It always took us 2 or 3 days to do a set of tests. When we did Calvert, we did Calvert; there was not time to do very much in terms of co-ops or outside classes.

It is also quite expensive.

After all those caveats, let me say that we loved it! We started using other things because the teaching style didn't fit with the learning style of some of my dc, and also, as I gained more confidence with homeschooling, I began to want to do what I wanted to do!

At the very least, I have used Calvert until 3rd grade because I really like their approach to teaching reading. For the last couple of dc I judged that it was worth the expense for that alone, even though I didn't use Advisory Teaching (which costs extra), and so didn't do the rest of the curriculum beyond the reading/language arts subjects.

If you have any other specific questions, I would be glad to try to answer them. If you don't want to post here, please PM me.

Peace,
Nancy
