I have really been getting into lapbooking. We are in the middle of a dinosaur lapbook at the moment. For some strange reason my boys seem to really be enjoying this form of science and it is perfect with all the ice we are having.lol
Next we are doing Sharks, then the plan is snakes, frogs, and anatomy. Can you tell they had big plans when they saw what we are doing? It is nice not having to come up with idea's for a change, they are full of things they want to study.lol
I also am doing one on Martin Luther King Jr, thanks to the post on a cover sheet it sent me searching for little projects! I always wanted to do this sort of thing when I started homeschooling, and now I am finally getting to the stuff I wanted to do, and making it work with the stuff we have to do.lol
We have fit in Math, writing and vocabular in our little lapbooks already.lol

Sounds like fun. My friend Beckie did a Shark lapbook in the beginning of the year and then they went to an exhibit at Under Water World at the Mall of America.
We've done a few lapbooks also and the kids love them. They seem to invest more time and energy into it because its fun. Mom loves it because they retain the informaiton they've read and studied because they are so hands on with the study.

I'm just getting my feet wet with lapbooking. Our first was for Black History Month last year. I'm working on one for Vietnam right now which I think will be much nicer than what I came up with last year.

I tried lapbooking last year, but found the planning so labor intensive. We switched to notebooking. Now, I'm doing a blend...using our notebooks to hold activities that would have gone in a lap book. I just attach the minibooks to cardstock, 3-hold punch, and put them in the notebook.
I also recently discoveredThe Hands of a Childand have purchased 2 of their Ebooks. These project packs inspire me, and save me lots of planning time.

Interactive notebook pages is what I would call ours as well (if I had been as clever as Kim and thought of it ). I like the combination of notebooking and lapbooking it provides.

Us too! I also call it creative scrapbooking...some things fold out and some are just glorified notebook pages. The kids love glueing images that I find off the net (and pasted into a word document and print) into their projects. They are working on a big one for Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome right now as well as one for Early American history. Included in our pages are the History pockets (from Evan Moor) projects and some other creative things...like this...Interactive 3D Maps American History
. I found even more resources for these subjects that get our creative juices flowing. I like using lots of page protectors on much of what we do to keep the work looking nice. Even if something is supposed to be 3-D...I have created it so we can assemble it for viewing then fold flat when we are done.
Honestly, it is nice to kick back in the afternoons with stacks of colored pages and things and watch the immaginations of the kids transform their scrapbooks/notebooks. For the little ones, I set things up for them so that they have minimal mess and minimal frustration.
When we don't want the mess of fold out things, we just are creative with Word documents and images. The kids will keyboard the info into a document and embellish it with a picture or clip art and choose the font and color they want and it emerges from the printer and goes RIGHT INTO the binder.
When those well-meaning relatives want to stack our house with gifts, we ask for gift certificates to Michaels and also for scrapbooking supplies. These "toys" go so much farther here!
I have been meaning to blog about it. I will soon. The thing I really miss is my digital camera. The old one quit working and I really wish I could share these with you and keep in the kids' permanent records!
