I love all the notebooks I've seen on different homeschooling websites. This is something I want to do with my girls-but currently they are young (5.5, 4.5 and 2.5 yrs). Does anyone notebook with preschoolers? At this point I'd like to document our learning-books we've read, field trips, etc. Anyone have any ideas (or better yet, pictures of notebooks) they can give me? Thanks!

This year, with my 5 year old and 3 year old, we made alphabet books. we had them "practice writing that week's capital and lowercase letter. Then, they searched(or mom searched)magazines/catalogs etc for pictures that started with that sound. For difficult letters, they sometimes used stickers or drew a picture themselves. we used simple white paper and stapled together with a decorated cover sheet at the end(not too creative, I know:) My oldest was especially proud when we finished. I use Enchanted Learning to make books with my little people. The have great pre-k crafts and books and other printables. It is a $20 membership for the year and well worth it.

Mary Ellen, when you subscribe to Enchanted Learning, do you get ad-free versions of the printables? That always bugs me about printable sites!

What kind of notebook were you thinking about starting with your girls? I am thinking about doing a dinosaur notebook with my son b/c that is his passion. I think we have so many pictures and info. that it would be fun, but I am a bit overwhelmed on how to start. I think the ABC book Kerry suggested sounds wonderful.

yep. You get ad-free and there are more printables from which to choose.

I'm not sure what I want to do! I was thinking about a Mass book, dinosaurs are popular around here though as are fairy tales. I was also thinking about some sort of log book of all the chapter books we've read but I wanted to do something else than just a list of books we've read. I haven't made any progess on this project yet, it's still floating around my brain. Most of the lapbooks/notebooks I've seen are too complicated for my young girls-I want something they can do, not something that mom has to do!

What a neat web-site Enchanted Learning is! I am tutoring Elizabeth's oldest in Spanish, and there are some great printables for him. When you're learning a new language it's like being a pre-schooler again!

I agree with you about having the children get to do the work and not just the Mommy! 
I think a fairy tale one would be so much fun!! I let you know what I come up with or should I say if I come up with a dinosaur one. We plan to do a butterfly lapbook sometime this month. I am gathering the materials, and we have been reading a ton. Thank goodness for Magic School bus books and videos they help me learn as well.

Has anyone read Cay Gibons' book Literature Alive?
It has pages of recommendations of supplies for lapbooks and notebooks. I am thinking of taking the book with me to Hobby Lobby and/or Michaels to help me shop. I'm sure my husband can't wait to get that bill.
