If you do, what do you use it for? (all schoolwork, certain subjects, storage...) It's our first year homeschooling and we've been reading on our living room couch and doing almost everything else on the kitchen table. My husband and I are talking about adding on to our kitchen and I wonder if we should make room for homeschool supplies in it, or if we should keep those in another place.

We have a seperate room now that we've moved (more like a library) and we still sit on the couch (or my bed) to read and do our work at the kitchen table, coffe table or outside. I guess that will never change.
However, I really like having the seperate area for the bookshelves and computers. My laundry room has cabinet space for our craft and art supplies. It's the first time I've ever had everything in one place (it's a good thing as I'll be 45 in a few months and not as able as I used to be to remember where everything was!  ).
If I were creating new space I'd definitely add all the storage areas in one place. You may end up "doing school" in all the familiar places but being able to find everything and put it away easily makes for a lot less stress.

We took the large, unused space over the garage, put in ac and carpets, provided access from the laundry room via a spiral staircase, and turned it into our Schoolroom. Because I need to be able to keep an eye on the little guys, we have made part of it into a play area.
One long wall has built in bookcases, with the bottom portion having cabinet doors, top part is open shelving. We use every inch of it, too! I store children's toys behind half the cabinets, and school supplies behind the other half. I also have a short wall with a brown Office Depot style bookcase and a similar supply cabinet---also very handy--- as well as a couple more small bookcases scattered around in our Science Center and History Being Studied Center. You can never have enough bookcases, it seems!
For desks, I got hold of a large U-shaped office desk (it was being dumped), which we have set up for computers and copy machine, as well as study space My inlaws were throwing out another desk, which we placed next to the U-shaped desk. Lastly, I found three old fashioned metal desk-with-attached-tables that we set up for the little guys. The main focus of the room, though, is the large kitchen table that dominates the room: my "power center", location of the all-important In Box, conveniently located next to my shelf full of ice boxes for pencils, pens, colored pencils and gen.office supplies.
This leaves about 1/3 of the room for play area. We store a lot of things on hooks on the walls, or in acrylic pockets attached to the walls, and have lots of bulletin boards, too (in our farm-house, we covered an entire wall with square corkboard "tiles"---good looking and very handy!)
Lastly, we have another long wall (opposite the bookshelves) where we've placed a sofa, pillows and another sleeper-sofa. These were also being sent to Goodwill when we intercepted them. What little free wall we have left has a large blackboard on it, courtesy of Home Depot.
The schoolroom really is the main activity area for our family, that we use for school in the morning, and play at other times. Having the play area adjacent definitely makes it easier to watch the little guys (though we have to stay on top of cleanup). I also think it is key that you make your school room convenient to the kitchen and laundry. Last but not least, I love having a separate area for School activities, play and supplies so that at the end of the day I can close the door (if it's really messy) and not have to look at it

We currently use the baby's room  .
This is where the computer, the books and the crib and toys are all kept. There is a nice large double closet which holds junk right now (we just rearranged the home since getting our upstairs done) but will eventually hold supplies.
 Like the inflatable globe DH said we could have... he doesn't like the real thing and only agreed to inflatable because we can hide it away

Hello,
We have a "classroom".
It is an extra room off of the kitchen area. It is about 16X20 feet. It has a chalkboard, huge 6 foot table and chairs, couch for reading, stereo system, bookshelves, and a bunch of Catholic Art, posters etc.
BUT, I think if we didn't have this, we would do most work at kitchen table and have an enclosed cupboard somewhere for our materials etc.
I like that I can take "class" anywhere!
