Anyone in the South planning to come to the upcoming Catholic Parenting Conference in northern Georgia?
There will be a hs session on Friday afternoon and general Catholic parenting track all day Saturday. Vendor tables too.
Great speakers including Dr. Janet Smith, Rita Munn, Dr. Mary Kay Clark, and many more.
My younger girls and I will be there too. I'll do a presentation on Catholic Mosaic and then sit back and enjoy the rest of the conference. I would love to meet some of you. There seems to be such little chance for those of us in the south to get together. Please let me know if you're coming and please come say "Hi!"
I'll be the one looking a little overwhelmed.
Here is the website link to learn more

I'm coming!!!! My dh and I are making it a parents and baby only, retreat, recharge, hurry up and use our rapid rewards points before they expire, weekend get-away!!!
We're actually having to fly into Nashville (Thurs)and then drive. The thought of that time in the car with just one baby and my husband...surely we'll have solved the problems of the world by the time we get to Norcross.
Cay - I'm giving you fair warning that I have this rock star groupie feeling when I think about meeting you. (not to creep you out or anything - i don't really think about it all that much, but i am super excited about our trip). So...consider yourself warned!
I hope to hear of others who will be there.

Gosh I wish I had known about this one sooner. I'd love to go! It's only about two hours from here, but I'm not sure I can do it on this short of notice.
We'll see...

Well, wouldn't you know Cay that you'd come North just as I went West?
Are we never destined to meet in person?????
Hope the conference is a big success for you. The Catholic Mosaic is a wonderful resource that we need to have folks see and use!

I wish I'd known sooner so we could have planned for it. This is about 4 hours from us, and we are doing some house sitting then so I know we won't make it this year .

I should have clarified the dates.
It's next Fri. and Sat. (July 21 and 22).
Suz, we're driving. I don't like planes...
And I'm using it as a chance to give the little girls an educational field trip across four states.
Oh, the places we'll go...the things we will see. Oma will be joining us and she's slightly OCD while any OCD tendencies I had were washed away with 5 children.
I go with the focus that I have only one commitment to make...a talk at 1 PM on Friday. My mother goes with a whole agenda. This is gonna be FUN!!!
I'm hoping that my girls appreciate me just a teeny bit more after spending a week with my mother.
And, Suz, please don't do that to me or to you. I am just so...me. I think people are a little disillusioned when they meet me. I'm not as talkative (I don't think I am ) in person as I am online...but don't get me started. There's really not much to be impressed with. So...consider yourself warned.
I do hope you'll be impressed with my children though. And ignore the fact that the 4-yr-old has entered a sassy, independent stage and that, not having heard the word "No!" very often in her short little life (short of the No, David! book), she'll likely to revolt big time if Oma uses it too often on the trip up there.
We eat in our vehicle. I can't indulge myself if I don't allow my children the same temptation. Now can I? Oma has a new vehicle and allows NO food or drink in the car. I have to leave my vehicle with my oldest dd so she can drive to work each day. My dh needs his truck for his sideline construction business. So we're stuck!!! And very grateful, might I add.
Anyway, I have been working on the talk and do hope everyone gets a lot out of it. I'm determined to have an organized talk and hope you'll enjoy.

Oh, Cay, you know I'm just playing...your "me" is perfect and I really just want to be able to thank you in person (as I wish I could so many of these ladies) for all that you have contributed to my family! No pressure!
I know you don't want pity...but I can't imagine a road trip without FOOD!!! Something very unbalanced from my childhood has made me associate road trips with CONSTANT munching. I thought everyone ate cheetos, oreos, m&m's and cheez-its on road trips....until I met dh. They rode in the back of the truck with a camper shell and were greatful for a wisp of fresh air.
You'll recognize my dh and I by our orange fingers when we get there!
Have a safe and wonderful journey.
Anyone else coming?

I am planning to attend the Friday sessions, Cay, if I can find a sitter for my little ones. Friday is also my husband's birthday and we are leaving on vacation the next morning, so it will be crazy trying to get there. But it will be worth it and I so hope it works out!
YIC,
Marjorie

You are sweet.
It's just that I haven't done anything that all of you wonderful ladies could do ten times better.
And for some strange reason, everyone thinks I'm a blond. My publisher, Margot at Hillside Education, recently told me that she thought I was. Chari use to think that too. And others. I don't know what makes someone a blond and I often wished I were blond. But I've been brunette since day one.

I knooooow. I don't know who will suffer more...the girls...or me .
But, I can assure you, Oma will have a huge Rubbermaid container in the back and she plans to have us stop every two hours or so to eat and drink. I don't think she can imagine making this four-state road trip with the girls. But she does enjoy traveling; she just prefers taking the older ones. But it will be a memory made...for her and the girls...and I'm in the business of making memories happen.
My biggest withdrawal will be not having my oldest dd with me. She's golden!!! And has such a calming effect. She is so much like her daddy. I guess that's why I feel a need to have one of them with me.

My dh isn't as strict as my mom but he has a fit everytime he cleans out the vehicle and finds fries under the seats, tootsie rolls stuck to the carpet, etc.
You writing about the camper shell on the truck and the children awaiting "a wisp of fresh air" had me . My brother and I grew up on camper shell-truck, family vacations. Saw almost all the 50 states that way.

Okay, orange fingers.
I've made an identity note of that.
See you next week. And I hope you get to make it too, Marjorie.
God Bless!!!

Cay, I am going to *try* and be there. I only live about 20 min from Norcross, so I've little excuse, right? I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my 4 and 6 yos, though :) And I can only come Friday, b/c I have to work Sat am and we're having a b-day party for the 6 yo that afternoon, too.
I didn't think you were blond, I thought for the longest time you were a redhead (don't ask where I got that idea, but I did see a pic of you recently and was surprised!)
I'm hoping to hear your talk, and I also want to put in some plugs for a couple of the priests who are speaking (probably on Sat I guess, the family part) - Fr. Jack Durkin used to be at my old parish and was wonderful, and Fr. Kevin Peek grew up in my neighborhood! He's really good, too.

I'm thinking about it! It's just about 4 hours from here....and I may be able to do it all by MYSELF! Wow--that would be a first! :)
Cross your fingers! I would love it if this worked out!

Cay, I just joined this forum, but I want you to know that I am going to the conference. I have read so many wonderful reviews about your book, and when I saw that you would be making a presentation on it, I was thrilled!
I told my husband about the conference and he is "kicking me out of the house" for two whole days -- without my littlest one (!) -- so I can go, take notes, enjoy my time away, and LOOK AT BOOKS!!! Praise God!

Cay,
I just wanted to say that it was a pleasure meeting you (and your mom, and your daughters) at the conference. I think you did a fantastic job with your presentation and your book is great!
Thank you so much for making the long trek up to Atlanta!

It was my pleasure to meet all of you. You are all as delightfully sweet in person as you are online and I wish we could have visited soooo much longer than we did.
Hope your trip was a good one, Kathy.

Hi, I missed this conference because I had to take one child to Virginia for theater camp. I live in AL and this was the first time anything so wonderful was actually close enough to consider attending. :/ Kust my luck! But the consolation was that I got to meet two online friends and one of them was LISSA!
Anyway, I was wondering if the organizers of this event had taped the talks and were selling them?
Anyone know?
