I was wondering if anyone who has this book is willing to share what it covers and what age group its targeted for? I'm thinking about using it for my 4th grader. All the reviews I read mention it covers catechism type information and I don't know if it will duplicate topics I am already planning to cover. I'd also like her to be able to read and comprehend it on her own, rather than as a read aloud. Do I need to wait till she is older to get full benefit from the book?

I have the book and we are using it as a read aloud for my 10 yo, but he could easily read it on his own. I just like to read it to him because it leads to such interesting discussions. We have only read the first few chapters so far and it has covered the Trinity, creation, and original sin.
Basically, two children are visited by St. Patrick, Eve, and others and these visitors take the children back to various times in history to see what happened. Then they discuss it with them in a very conversational way. My son likes it alot because the kids are funny and very human.
Even if it does cover the same topics as other materials, it does it in such a unique and charming way that it wouldn't be repetitious, IMO.

When I first read St. Patrick's Summer, it was just a book on our bookshelves. I enjoyed the story, the historical and fictional aspects, and while I read it, the catechesis part was reinforced. But that's not why I read it. It's strange to me to see it being touted as an educational book. I just enjoyed reading it, and so did my siblings and cousins. And I reread it, also.

I can't remember what age I was...11?

Not that this helps, just a comment.
