Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello, everyone! I am hoping to get some basic information about homeschool programs. We are nearing the end of our 2nd year of homeschooling (very eclectic with some special needs, though on grade level with both). Maybe you could tell me if this exists! I would like:
-a school that is Catholic or secular
-I would like an advisor to help with support and questions
-I would like an accredited school with transcripts
-I already have most of our curricula that work for our 2nd and 4th graders currently (Winston Grammar (4th grader), AAS, Seton's English (2nd), Apologia Science, SOTW (with the Catholic additions I found from a very wonderful homeschooling Catholic mama), Math-U-See, Life of Fred, Kaleeka Press Spanish, Typing Island, and more supplements than I care to admit, hee hee!). We used Seton for religion last year and it flopped with my two, so I created my own units and this year simply supplement what they learn in their RE classes.

Is there any school out there that is *this* flexible yet provides the key features of what I feel would benefit our babies?

Thank you for ANY help!

If you are looking for flexibility with an advisor and accredited transcripts, it sounds like you want Kolbe.

Determining the style of learning is also critical to planning your year. If you are wanting a Charlotte Mason approach to learning but need to enroll somewhere (for family or state reasons), then I think MODG is the closest to the philosophy of Charlotte Mason.

Do you need support for your special needs child? It seems that Seton has a strong special needs support area.

Are you needing some guidance for choosing what to learn each year? Mater Amabalis, Charlotte Mason Help, Simply Charlotte Mason, and Ambleside Online can give you yearly book lists and guidance to implement the CM educational lifestyle.

Are you more of a classical (there's a whole thread on the different types of classical) educator? Kolbe, Angelicum Academy, and St. Thomas Aquinas Academy would be good to explore.

Seton, Our Lady of Victory, and Our Lady of the Rosary seem to be in the style of traditional Catholic schools. Authentic and rigorous.

Catholic Heritage Curricula has full lesson plans and workbooks for each grade level, but you do not enroll with them as your school (if you need this option).

Sorry, I don't have time to add the links right now, but will try to accomplish this a bit later.

There are Yahoo groups for the major curriculum providers you listed that offer a wealth of knowledge about each program. Once you narrow down your choice, I would join in their group to ask more specific questions. I joined the Kolbe group and have learned SOOOOOO much about that program (since I will eventually need to enroll in a school).

I hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the wonderful input! After a lot of research, I think we will be trying out Kolbe...we like the classical element to it, and the flexibility I am hopeful will allow our kiddos to transition in an easy manner. My kiddos began in Catholic schools (K for DD and 3-yr old preschool through 2nd for DS)...and it amazes me that I never even gave a second thought as to curriculum the schools chose; yet now, I feel comfortable enough to choose it! Homeschooling certainly has provided a lot of blessings (and has taught me even more patience )!

Thank you again - the wonderful food for thought really helps!
