Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Moms~

We have a Seton Conference that we may be attending soon...and I was wondering if it is worth going just to peruse their resources?

Do you have any favorite books for grades K-3?

I am thinking mostly readers, since I have heard how sweet their readers tend to be...

But anything else?

Wondering if it is worth the effort to go...I don't need to hear speakers, per se...more interested in resources...and the fact that they made it known they do not want kids there (uh, what's a home schooling mother to do?) really kind of upset me and some other home schooling families.

Thank you!

Maggie,

Is this Seton Conference only to showcase their materials? Or does it have other vendors?

I think Seton has a "see inside this book" feature on their website.
I currently have a second grader with a full enrollment at Seton. My favorite is probably the phonics. The readers are cute, but they are not phonetic readers and are not correlated with the phonics at all. I supplement with phonetic readers. But they are CAtholic and promote good values.
really what I like best about the full enrollment is it keeps me honest, but I think at the lower grades the full enrollment and record keeping and counseling makes less of a difference than in the upper grades.

If this is the IHM conference, I highly recommend it. I went last year and the speakers were great. There were lots of vendors there as well.

I like the CD for Kindergarten, I think it's Songs of Praise. Nice songs! My youngest broke our CD and I'm definitely going to replace it this year.

I have the readers and like the nod to traditional values and Catholic stories (larger families, Mass attendance, etc.). I'm also going to purchase the Catholic Faith Comes To America as a spine for US History this coming year (for a 3rd and 1st grader).

The religion is very detailed, but very boring and dry. It's nice to have since I am a convert, so I'm learning along the way, but I would use it as a supplement to other faith stories.

Hope this helps!
