Is there a list on the boards about ancient Egypt read alouds??
It seems as though I have seen one somewhere....but can't find it now.
I am looking for one good read aloud to add to our ancient Egypt studybthat we are doing right now.

There are some listed in SCM History Module 1.
Peeps at Many Lands: Ancient Egypt is another one that comes to mind. I haven't read it yet, but it is one of the books in the Yesterday's Classics collection that I just got.

I was lining up the Landmark book Pharoahs of Ancient Egypt, The Golden Goblet, and use Cat of Bubastes read by Jim Weiss.

Joann, what is your age range? I was thinking you wanted something for the younger crowd? But, your "younger crowd" is growing up! 
I decided not to read Cat of Bubastes this time around....I think it's a bit more advanced story line and writing???? Not sure off the top of my head and can't find my notes right now. Same thing with The Golden Goblet...I think. My girls were 4th, 3rd and 1st/2nd grade, though.
And, I wouldn't classify Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt as a "fun, family read aloud"....it's def. a living book, of course!!!.....but not as "fun" as I would like to have as a family read aloud that includes the early elementary kids.
The Boy of the Pyramids was fantastic! We ALL enjoyed it and were very sad when it ended! All enjoyed it....even the almost 5 yo. I was the perfect history read aloud for us last year....considering the age range, interest level, pregancy, etc.

Well, keep in mind that you have an advanced reader....who is a boy....and a curious, interested one at that! And, probably TWO of the above-mentioned .....Which makes a difference.
I can totally see YOU reading aloud Pharoahs of Anc Egypt....so that both boys benefit from it, provides a great discussion book, is meaty and totally worth slowly going through it!!!! It's a great living book for you to RA! Here??....no....not so much....for a variety of reasons. That would be a book I'd assign for independent reading for lots of reasons.
So....don't reconsider that one....it's totally a worth your effort....but I wouldn't classify it as "fun"! It's a GREAT LIVING MEATY BOOK ala Charlotte Mason!
More comments on THE CAT and GOLDEN GOBLET later...gotta find my notes and what i wrote after partially reading them last year.

My 1st and 2nd graders really enjoyed Pharoahs of Ancient Egypt last year as a read-aloud. Last time around we didn't do Cat of Bubastes until 9th grade; I think I'll assign Mara Daughter of the Nile and The Golden Goblet in later elem. Wish I'd known about Boy of the Pyramids!

This one is for 3rd or 4th grade reading level. It is about a boy who lives at the time of Akhenaten, the Pharaoh who believed in one god. Quite good, but OOP I think. I found it pretty easily on used book engines.

I just got my copy this week. This will be my family read aloud for the first term. I'm glad to hear so many have enjoyed it.
We have a copy of Peep to Many Lands, I've skimmed through it and I'm putting it in my 6th graders basket as an option. We tried Pharoahs of Ancient Eqypt four years ago with her (that would be 2nd grade) she did not enjoy it. Very meaty, too dry. I don't plan on using it with my 3rd grader. I put together a picture book reading once a week also:

We are reading The Boy of the Pyramids right now as a read aloud. We are all enjoying this.
The kids I am gearing this for are 9 and 11. I was able to just request Casting the God's Adrift. This looks good!
And thanks to Jenny, I am about to fill up my library requests with her great list of books!!
I'm not sure about Cat of Bubastes? I think they would enjoy it if it was read by Jim Weiss, but that version is kind of pricey, especially when I'm not sure it would be in the kids age group.

Suzanne, your list is definitely more feminine!  You made some very helpful points about G's reading level and the fact that he is a boy. He loves history and all the details, so I'll keep that in mind.
