Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Living Books Curriculum
I saw this recommended by Penny Gardner and another CM website, that it seemed to be the closest thing to "CM in a box" made. The comments were that with other curriculums you have to adapt them to use them in a CM way, but this one was very true to her methods, though using contemporary books. That intrigued me . . . !

They have grades 1-3 available. Has anyone tried it?

hey I just stumbled across this too and was curious for opinions.

the sample they let you download is a bit helpful, but nothing beats an actual user.

I am finding I need some accountabity for my littler ones. If it's not written down - I tend to not get to it.

I'd like the idea of someone else to schedule and write it down for me!

Not a whole lot of help on the curriculum itself, but some background that might prove useful. I haven't seen the curriculum, but I have met the founders of Living Books Curriculum. They are Protestant hs'ers who started and run a company that sends curricula packages to developing nations -- both as a way to educate and evangelize. They were just starting out with this new product when I met them a few years back at a conference .... very nice, dedicated folks who have one daughter (who was in middle school at the time and got to travle with them on the mission trips).

I'd check the books their using in their syllabi and see if that fits with what you're doing. I'm pretty sure you'd have to tweak it a bit....

ahhh the tweaking factor... nevermind...
what in the world was I thinking? tweaking?
I don't have time for no stinkin' tweakin'!
Guess I'll just have to continue with my good, already owned, Catholic stuff.

I'm with you! The books that they have, even for the lower grades are HEAVY with the Protestant/British side of American history .... they seem to forget that the Spanish were here WAY before .... altho they do have a title about the Maryland colony but it's "John Calvert of Lord Baltimore's Colony", so I don't know how it would be for the Catholic side.

If you have time to tweak, it certainly looks good....

I'm intrigued by this. I can't get the link to work for the review.

Does anyone have anymore thoughts or has anyone actually used it?

I had looked at them as well. I think the whole idea of it was wonderful and reasonably priced. How I wish there was something like that was Catholic.
I am not to keen on the British hist. and some of the slants either.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone used this curriculum: http://www.livingbookscurriculum.com/

I am curious about the teaching manuals. I looked at the samples on-line and they seemed nicely laid out and organized - something I could really use!

Thanks in advance!

Bumping because Tea was wondering about this curriculum as well. Has anyone decided to try it? Seen it? Held it?

Donna~
The "review" that you linked isn't working anymore. Do you remember where it is or where you saw it?

Suzanne,

Thanks for moving this! Based upon what I am reading here and what I observed after re-reading their booklists, it looks like just a bit too much tweaking would be required to make this really work!

Thanks again!

I have borrowed some of their suggested books from the library and my kids have loved everyone no matter the subject area.

If I had a critique, I noticed that in the Living Books for Christopher Columbus....none of the ones we were able to borrow had any mention of the Catholic Church....but then they did not say anything bad about the Church either.....i don't know if that would be a problem for some. But again, I have enjoyed the books we were able to find and so have my 3 school kids. (Kindergarden and Grade 1 / Grade 2)
