Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could someone please explain rabbit trails to me. I know I must sound like an idiot, but I have just started researching notebooking, lap-booking, narrations, and it's a bit over-whelming. This is my first year homeschooling my almost 10 yr. old ds. He is a delayed reader and has problems with comprehension. I am thinking this will help him alot.
I am also thinking this will make his experience more fun.....and isn't that what it's all about???

Thanks,
marcie

Hi Marci, and welcome! Rabbit trailing is simply a term for going off on a tangent to explore something that strikes your child's fancy. For example, you may be reading the Greek myth about Athena and Arachne and decide you want to learn more about spiders and their webs. So you go get books about that and go on a spider hunt and identify them, make a web out of yarn, etc- any way you want to spend some time exploring that "trail."
I do think it is the very best part of homeschooling-having that freedom to explore interest when they hit. In fact, we are pretty much on a continuous rabbit trail around here, we have so much fun with it!

Welcome, Marcie!

Theresa's explanation of rabbit-trailing is perfect. I have several posts on my blog about various rabbit trails we've taken, if you're interested--

Life on the Trail     (a westward expansion rabbit trail)

Strawberries

Chain Chain Chain

And browsing around these forums, you'll find lots of other people's examples. It's a great way to learn!

There was another short thread here.

I thought this phrase was coined by a few of the original CCMers, like Elizabeth and MacBeth. I scanned my copy of Real Learning and didn't find a definition. Now I can't remember for the life of me where I read that!
