Continuing this old thread:
What to buy? top 10 must haves!
I'd love to hear your list in 2010 of your top 10 must haves. I'm going to state that two Top 10 lists are fair, one for books, the other school tools/supplies. Reference books can fall in either category.
And yes it's okay to count a series or an author as one entry.

I've gotta say, I looked back at my old answer, and I don't think I'd change much. Here is my list from back then:

1. pencils for sketching
2. colored pencils
3. paper to use as is or make into journals
4. scissors
5. field guides
6. internet (for access to Google and this forum!)
7. a library card
8. a good world atlas
9. transportation
10. a sense of adventure!
Everything else is just gravy!

I do think I'd combine 1 and 2 into "art supplies" and that would leave me with room for 1 more:
A good hand lens or microscope.

Let's see....
1. A library card
2. The internet
3. A good set of field guides
4. Good quality art supplies
5. An endless supply of paper
6. Maps and a globe
7. Math U See
8. Favorite Poems Old and New
9. Plenty of pencils and good erasers
10. Comb binder (love that thing!)
Phew...that was kind of hard to narrow it down...and I didn't even mention too many books!

what a great idea for our last day online  I'm gonna cheat and take library card from Theresa & Emily  never would've thought of it but use it weekly . how to keep it to 10 is so difficult ! what I have found is in reflection our most valuable and treasured must haves rarely have anything to do with purchasing and spending money except those items we truely need for our survival etc. it is kind of nice to see this in our family as money often seems to be our struggle but in reality it really isn't 
1. contentment in the home
2.access to fresh air & the out of doors
3. activity of the mind , inspiring , growing , thinking minds
4.pyshical activity not just sports but handicrafts , inventing , etc.
5. paper , in all forms journaling , wrapping , note cards
6.community
7. post office & letter carrier !!!! yes I love to send & receive snailmail , my grandson & I especially even though we live in the same city
8. access to whole foods ,& area for the children being to prepare those foods
9.proper appropriate clothing for weather conditions
10. library card , library , books , books and more books . honestly why are all books not free ?we also can go with using library for internet access for months at a time and be just fine with that it saves on time & keeps those teens off the gaming for awhile

2. Students (willing or otherwise )
3. Books (Personal library as Public disappoints)
4. Bookcases
5. Art/Craft Supplies
6. Basic Stationary, ie. notebooks, pencils, paper, erasers, scissors etc.
7. Computers/internet (for older students)
8. Comb binder
9. Laminator
10. Workspace (tables, chairs)

1 - sleep and coffee (trust me, the kids appreciate if I have this - okay, probably better said as a Happy Positive Attitude
2 - Library card
3 - Museum pass
4 - Friends - we are a social bunch of girls here
5 - Tomie DePaola books
6 - chapter books
7 - a husband that can support us financially
8 - another homeschooling mom who will listen without jundgement
9 - art supplies
10 - a musical instrument to play (my oldest 2 are learning violin)
I do not spend much $$ on curriculum each year. Mostly rely on unit studies.

here's ours:
1. Bookmooch & our local thrift shops {half of our materials, books, etc come from these}
2. Coupons {Single parent staying home to home school makes funds very tight}
3. Bookcases
4. Swagbucks and their Amazon Gift Cards which pay for anything we can't get locally or on Bookmooch
5. Thornton Burgess books
7. Art Supplies {mostly bought at penny back to school sales and saved for the year}
8. My mother, who home schooled me and lives with us.
9. Groupon - we were just able to get a year membership to the local childrens museum for just $34 - it's normally $90.
10. Prayer - without lots of prayer it would never work.

Great site isn't it!
And BTW I just mooched several books from you on there. I'm Sandygirl.
I did forget one BIG help though - Librarything! I am able to keep a virtual inventory of all our books, with tags for grade, subject, saint, etc! It makes it SOOO much easier when writing lesson plans as I can search for everything tagged with that grade to see what I have and what I still need.
