Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

is there a way to test what grade level a student is reading at? maybe an online program or something?? when my kids were in public, i know they were tested pretty frequently. there are grade level books at the library that i would be curious to see what my kindergartner is reading at.

thanks for any info, if there is any! LOL...

Wow... I just did that test on my 5 1/2 year old. I have always wondered what level he reads at because he enjoys it so much and seems 'ahead' for his age.

I definitely wasn't prepared for 4th grade, 4th month!

I actually think he could even read more, but he got to 'abuse' and said he didn't want to do it anymore.

My daughter just took one at http://test4free.com/. It says it tests reading levels 2-10. This one tests both phonics and comprehension.

Blessings,
Jenny

My son did both of those... WAY past his bedtime and we're both tired, but you know - just for fun!

For the simpler "read the list words", he scored 2nd grade for independent and 3rd for instructional. Frankly, I'm not that surprised. It's interesting to have my own intuition confirmed He still has some things to fill in, so we'll continue with our current reading programs (Montessori, CHC and CLE) - but I'm going to continue what we've been doing and let him do as much of the work as he wants until he reaches a point he needs a break - and come back to it later (his "breaks" from reading tend to last about 2 days right now! but I'm sure this will slow down at some point).

Right? He WILL slow down at some point???

Because, see... the more detailed test (test4free)... tested him at 4th grade instructionally and 3rd grade independently (he DOES read *some* 3rd grade books independently). I am SO not ready for my child to be in 4th grade and we're Montessorians over here (so ok with being grade-less).

Ok, I just took the tests myself - for the fun of it. The one that rated my son so high??? I'm at 9th grade instructionally - and 8th grade independently. Now, I have the equivalent of 2 master's degrees. And I only have an eighth grade reading level?

Of course, I AM tired - and I did get a little creative with my answers towards the end. Perhaps that has something to do with it!

We don't really do tests, but when I read with my younger, I know how well he is reading a certain book, and then I check the local Catholic school's website, and click on its Accelerated Reader link, which gives me a list of books, usually including one my son has read, and it has the grade level of reading. My older son is two or three grade levels ahead of himself, so I don't worry about him, but my younger, I like to check up on.
