My dyslexic DD (12yo) is really thriving with things like Bauer's Story of the World series on CD. She listens to them over and over and eventually it sinks in. She's even able to craft or paint while she is listening which is a double bonus.

Do any of you have favorite texts or books on audio along the lines of Story of the World, but for any NON-fiction subject? Particularly for the middle school/early high school age?

We have The Story of Classical Music,which is a 4 CD set narrated by Marin Alsop and we really, really like it.

We have Gombrich's Little History of the World.
Also Jim Wiess' Shakespeare. I know that is not quite non-fiction but his voice is soo easy to listen to.

Also, you might check out the audio recording of How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization based on the book by Thomas Woods. We have it, but we haven't listened to it yet. We're almost there in history.

I usually browse by genre. In Gods Garden, and many more are included. You can download by mp3 or in itunes. All free......
