Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What does the phrase "playing at learning" mean to you?

Is it a positive or negative statement?

I can see where negative connotations can come up with the phrase. I think of the younger children many of my friends have, who "play at learning" as they watch their moms teach their siblings.

I think it is meant to be a negative statement. When someone says you are "playing at" something, it means you are not taking it seriously. Totally different concept than "learning through play" which is a positive statement, IMHO.

Negative.

To me, it means something that looks like learning when in reality meaningful connections are not being made. Something that looks "schoolish" but isn't contributing to real learning. Mostly I think of busywork.

Negative.

I think of skimming and not really engaging.
