Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just bought this book at the thrift store and I was wondering if I should stay away from any books recommended in it. I'm mostly looking for ewad alouds for my middle kids, ages 7-11

I think his suggestions in the first half of the book are paramount. The second half of the book gives good info about his opinion on each book. They gave me good stepping off ideas for books. This is a good reminder for me to pull it out for 10 year old reading suggestions....

I find that I like the book suggestions from Ambleside Online or Mater Amabilis to be more of what she likes....but we always need more ideas for my veracious reader.

I love this book. I have found the books he recommends to be quality literature even if we as a family don't enjoy the book. I like that he gives a read-aloud age and a read-alone age for the books. I have found his guidance on age appropriateness to be accurate. I also like that for most of the books, he gives recommendations for similar books along the lines of "If you liked this book, try . . . ." or "For more books on this subject matter, try . . . ."

I also agree with Marcia that the firs part of the book setting out the reasons for reading aloud is wonderful. I frequently re-read this part of the book when I need a reminder to continue to read aloud with my children who are capable of reading on their own.

Hope this helps.
