Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today I read Elizabeth's blog post about burn out and I admitted to myself that I think I'm just plain burning out. This is only year 8 for us so I feel like such a whimp! (I know many of you have homeschooled much longer!) I would like to find something inspirational to read and I am looking for suggestions. Right now it's just really difficult to even get started in the morning. I feel like I'm pushing a huge boulder, but it never really starts rolling. Once I get myself started, my kids don't just jump in line either! They add more resistance! I know they are picking up my attitude and I've tried and tried but I just don't know how to change it.
I sort of felt this way last year and I began using workboxes. I think the change was really good for all of us and we finished our year with flying colors.
The workboxes are still working, sort of, but I'm no longer inspired. Any thoughts?
I know I'm being a whiner. I just don't know how to get myself going again.
I've had Educating the Whole Hearted Childon my wishlist for some time. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and order it, or if maybe there is something better.
Any recommendations?

When I feel that way, I take a walk by our local high school and watch the kids coming out of there and listen to their conversations and watch their actions - and suddenly I feel more inspired and determined to keep homeschooling!

Good one Elena!!!! I will try that this week....

Becky, I understand where you are coming from. I am also burnt out- today I decided to read, read, read out loud, let the children play lego while I did (without even a drink on my part (just kidding)) then sent the youngers out to play (it is GORGEOUS here). I sat with the two older kids with their Algebra and made some lunch. After a bit I called the kids in and my science nut and I did an experiment. After that we did a little here and there, certainly not the whole LIST but we had fun, the kids feel accomplished and so do I (as long as I remember we didn't do EVERYTHING) and we are all sane and enjoying life (which is a first for me these last couple of weeks)...A different change of pace was good for us for today. Not a permenant fix but it sure did help....

Sorry, I didn't answer your original question...I don't have a go to book at the moment- my burnt out brain needs a rest from hs books. What helps me in a burnout is doing something I enjoy- like knitting, a long bath and a good book etc. But I know it is very personal....

I couldn't agree more!
I always say that for burnout the best cure is to back away from the grind and find your own joy, whatever it is. Then you will be able to pass that joy on to your children.

This makes alot of sense Kristie. I keep reading and trying and struggling with a "better way" to homeschool, when I probably need to find a better way to relax.

Becky
I've shared before my inspiration list that really helped me. I'm slowly recovering, a day at a time.
