I would love to hear what methods work best for homeschooling your creative kids. Let's assume for this discussion that you do not want to unschool. You want school requirements but prefer that flexibility and creativity rule the day.

One thing my DH and I discussed doing this year is giving our children a topic and asking them to focus on something within that topic to research. They are then to present what they have learned in whatever way they decide. Still working out the details of this as I have a newborn and everything is proceeding in slow motion right now.

Having our children learn about something and teach it to us seems to be a great way for them to make it their own.

What requirements work for you and your creative children?

hi,
sounds like a great idea. can they brainstorm topic ideas with you your dh? how about presenting a topic as a group, with each child working on a different aspect of it, then rotate who works on what aspect for the next topic.

My creative kids need structure to stay on track with those areas that are not passions - but they run pretty free in their areas of passion. I do try to make sure they have projects and try to use their passion to entice more towards areas of avoidance - but accountability and structure help these folks balance out.
