Hey to all!
I wanted to start adding a little of the MA suggestions to our day and while looking at the site I thought about just using the MA program with a little CHC. My question is has anyone used the MA suggestions with the CHC and had any luck with them? Are any of you using the MA as laid out? If you do use CHC with MA how do you use them together?
I can't wait to see what great sugestions or comments from all of you!
God Bless,
Cheryl

Cheryl:
I'll be back later, but here are some threads from the archives about MA in the meantime.
And, here are our plans for my 2nd and 3rd graders.

Hi there, Cheryl. I'm using a combination of CHC and Mater Amabilis (and a smattering of other things) for my 1st grader and veteran preschooler. I'm not extremely familiar with MA but to me it seems to fit well together

I use the CHC lesson plans for grades one to three and add book recomendations from MA.
I consult the lists at MA when I'm deciding on living geography and science books and I use the MA suggestions for picture study, and when selecting books for literature (AKA reading piles) as my dd's enjoy the MA books more then the CHC recommendations for grade one and two.
Basically I go over the CHC lesson plans for grades one to three, decide what I want to add (I like to add history read-alouds based on RChistory for the early years for example) and check out what supplementary books will work well with CHC's science and social studies using MA and For the love of Literature as my primary guides. I then put all the MA books that I haven't scheduled in into a list of 'books-to -have-as-choices for our reading piles'. Our library is very good so I'm normally able to find 90% or more of them through our library (including a good chunk of the Catholic mosiac books).
If I was working primarily from MA then I'd look at the plans, decide which materials from CHC it would be worth adding and go from there. [given what my dds have most enjoyed, it would most be likely CHC's material for hands-on religion plus their language arts]
[for grade four and up I've ended up shifting away from CHC and more towards writing my own plans on a subject by subject level. I still use CHC's language arts materials and consult MA for ideas on living books along with ideas from RChistory.]

Ok I am bumping my own thread! I put together some ideas that we are going to start using this year for K and second grade using both CHC and Mater Amabilis. I thought I would share with you my suggestions. I put suggestions in there from Prep level through Level 1A. I am planning on trying to see what ideas I can come up with for the other grades. Did I mention that I like planing? It looks like you could really make these work well together. My goal was to find the perfect Catholic curriculum for our family. I think these two programs combined just might be it for us. Let me know if this link works, if not I can email them to who ever wants them.
God Bless,
Cheryl

Here is a little Link-Tutorial that you can play around with! Have Fun!
********How to add a Link***********
Look in the little box where you would normally enter a reply. There are several helpful buttons here. Do you see the one that has a CHAIN LINK over a GLOBE - that's the button you'll need to push to add a link. Click it.
It asks you for the "the on screen display text for the Hyperlink"...this means what do you want it to say when someone reads your link....I could have entered shelf, or display shelf...I chose to use the description on the Target page so I entered "Kidcraft Sling Bookshelf". Now, click OK. You aren't quite done...one more step!
The little window now wants the web address for your link - it says "Enter the URL address to create Hyperlink to". Copy the address for the web page exactly as you see it and enter it in this section. Click OK.
You've made a link!
A couple of tips -
** links are always added to the very end of the body of text....so if you've been typing away and you suddenly remember you want to add a link, you can do that, but your link is going to show up at the very end of your typing, not necessarily where you placed your cursor to make that link. You'll just need to make the link and then copy and paste it where you want it.
** you cannot just copy a web address and drop it in the body of text at 4Real and have it be an active or hot link. The code for our forums **automatically** inserts a space at random in the code disabling it. If you want to insert a link somewhere, you'll have to use the little link button! And, surely you must know how much we all LOVE LINKS!!!
Happy linking everyone!
