Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello ladies,

I have been contemplating our First "official" school day and week since seeing this thread Schultuete for 1st day We were set to start on the week of August 24th but life happened and now we are going to start August 31st.

So how do you celebrate the new school year????

1. We will be using the Schultuete Idea and even bought those cute Playmobile figures

2. We will be going to Mass at noon with Daddy.

3. Special Tea time celebration

4. First Day of School Pictures at Nonna's house. (This is my Mom who loves to really celebrate their start into a new school year. We take pictures and have a great dinner and the kids tell her all about what our plans are for this school year!)

So who has some other great ideas???

Mine are actually very simple, but they're the traditions we've kept up year after year.

We go to Mass and then ask Father for a special blessing. Afterward, I entrust the year to Our Lady in a prayer before the Most Blessed Sacrament.

We come home and have a special lunch.

Then, we enjoy the afternoon sitting around the table and becoming familiar with the baskets I've built for each of the children. We talk about who will do what and when. They love this time of exploring with me.

The children select the read aloud to begin the year.

We usually have a special tea time in the afternoon with a treat and we start our read aloud.

Praying you all have lovely first days!

I got the playmobil too in the end, and justified it by deciding to use them as decorations on a back-to-"school" cake, with some alphabet sugar letters making a sweet alphabet path for them to walk down.

And apart from that we will have a special breakfast, presents, and then start in on our routine again. I'm so excited to start again.

We go to early Mass with Daddy , and then get bagels from Panera for a special breakfast before he has to go off to work. Sometimes I do the Shultute or supplies baskets - other year like this one we already have the supplies and everyone is helping organize them. We also have a special teatime - sometimes tied into a feast day - eg in previous years we have started on the Feast of the Assumption or on Our Lady's Birthday. (This year I am hoping that we actually will get started before the start of Advent )

Although I know many have already started (we haven't) I rec'd this today and thought it was appropriate for "first day" rituals:

http://www.pflaum.com/prayerservice/

The prayer services are geared toward groups but could easily be adapted for family use. I was thinking of doing that with my kids and their new books.

Then I had a thought about marking their height on their growth charts. It's been a loong time since I've done that so this seems the perfect opportunity and we could chat about growing healthy minds and bodies.
