Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wow August is next week! Whew, no more talk of "next year" because next year is this year!

I've finally got all my orders placed and am eagerly awaiting the man in brown.

So what's everyone else planning on doing/using?I had to drasticly update and eidt my curriculum page on my blog. Went a little temporarily insane for a bit, but I think we're finally settled on a firm plan of action now.

So what's everyone else planning?

How did it get to be August already?! Looks like you're ready to go, Martha. I've got my plans laid out here. Basically, the 3 R's daily (for my 2nd grader), some art and read-alouds for everyone, and then lots of project-based learning. My 2nd grader has also requested some formal homemaking lessons ("with assignments, please, Mom"), so we're doing Home Ec on Mondays. And I've got a first communicant (for the first time!!!) this year, so we'll be digging into the Catechism.

We'll be starting late this year- late Sep or maybe even early Oct.

Sarah,

Your year looks like a WONDERFUL one of learning fun and exploration!

I'm planning our 15th year of homeschooling, and will be graduating our second child at the end of this year. Our last will begin high school at home this year, so in 4 years, we'll be finishing this wonderful journey of homeschooling.

We're very much into individual programs for high school for each of them now, so all of the cozy learning together is mostly passed. But we do manage to do a lot of GREAT discussion of current events, and I think we'll do a couple of other things together this year like Fallicy Detective for logic, and also we're going through the book that Glenn Beck recommended, *The 5000 Year Leap*, for a discussion based book. We'll see what else comes up together.

Our oldest son, a senior will do his last year of Trisms curriculum, and our 9th grade daughter will use the ALT 7 year of Sonlight, tweaked for high school. We've not done Sonlight yet, so this should be interesting!

Blessings,
Tracy

It cannot be August!!

We are mostly following Serendipity's World Tour, only we have already started! We are finishing up 2 months with Africa this week. Next week we start our tour of Asia by beginning in the Middle East. Just posted my plans today for that! :)

We are also doing Lively Language Lessons, using the ideas I also took from Serendipity, but using a different set of books.

We are using Prima Latina, New American Cursive from Memoria Press as well.

Of course, lots and lots of reading good books, afternoons outside and Bible and prayer time each morning.

Math is the weakness in my homeschool. I'm trying to muddle my way through our 2nd grade math books, which we are almost halfway through, in order to get Teaching Textbooks! LOL! I am really looking forward to letting the computer do some math with my girls.

For preschool, Caleb has been learning one letter at a time and we are up to Q. Mostly using stuff from homeschool share for him...as well as preschool activities in a bag, fun stuff like puzzles, lots of art, and this boy loves him some dirt and trucks/cars!!

I love hearing about everyone's plans!!

We are just gonna go simple: Along the Alphabet Path! I am so excited about it! But first we gotta finish our wonderful Beatrix Potter Unit with which I have had so much fun. Then we were supposed to do the Secret Garden, but I think that I'll keep that one up my sleeve for a more down time, maybe when my Grandparents come visit from France in October and things will be all over the place, we'll see!

Anyways, Flower Fairies here we come!

I am looking forward to our year, whenever we actually start.

We tiptoed into the world of unit studies in the spring so I am looking forward to doing a whole year of unit studies. We are doing 4 units for history. Each unit will be on a time frame a la WTM. We will focus on two people from each era. My kids picked the person that they wanted to learn about.

For science, we are going to be using HSS units. The kids have picked out the ones that they are interested in doing.

I have a 5th grader this year so I am excited to step up the learning a bit and transition her to more independent learning. We will start learning how to make notes, write reports and discuss literature. I have been watching Teaching the Classics in preparation for this. I am more of a thinker, so discussing literature is going to be a real stretch for me. We are also starting Classical Writing: Homer. Again, I am stepping into unchartered territory here in learning new things. This is a steep learning curve for me but I am really looking forward to doing this with my oldest.   What is even better, is that she is excited about it as well.

Blessings

Well, my son (9th grade) has requested the following subjects:
Marine biology: Fieldwork
Algebra II (MUS)
One Year Adventure Novel
The Tempest and Twelfth Night, using Sparknotes
The Teaching Company Course "Shakespeare: Comedies, Histories, Tragedies"
History: Renaissance period using various resources, focus on Leonardo DaVinci (also for art)
Human anatomy (continued studies)
First aid/CPR
We will also be doing some journaling activities using this:Wreck This Journal
Religion-Amy Welborn "Prove It" series, plus daily devotional:Every Day is a Gift:Minute meditations for Every Day
Scuba certification
Karate
Whatever else he decides to dive into.

For dd grade 2:
Mondays with Mary
Math:Montessori
Language:Montessori, mostly
Science: following along with brother in marine bio.plus anything else she wants to learn about
Soc studies:Florida-using
The Young Naturalist's Guide to Floridaand other things.
Whatever else her little heart desires.

Wow. As I type this up it sure sounds awfully planned for a bunch of unschoolers!LOL! I guess we are entering a "high tide" period. Totally appropriate considering the marine biology focus, I suppose!LOL!

Theresa -

When I grow up, I wanna be a homeschooler like you. I always want to ditch everything I've planned and do like you when I read your blog/posts.

I always feel at low-tide in comparison.

Wow...time to get my act together.

My son will be in grade 12. He's taking U.S. History at the community college. He'll also study French, Pre-Calculus, Religion (our beloved Didache series!), American Lit, and Physics. He's working on a wood project right now for woodworking credit. He will probably graduate with a quarter-credit each in woodworking, automotive repair and aviation studies.

My daughter will be in grade 7 (oof!). She's doing Pre-Algebra, Spanish, U.S. History (field trips!), Marine Biology, Religion (still debating - she is tired of F&L after using it K-6), Language Arts (tied to history reading), and, of course, dance, art, music, sewing, knitting, weaving, etc. - the stuff she really likes to do.

Both will take archery classes and work on Scouting advancements/projects.

We are bracing for college application fun and praying that God will direct my son to a school that likes military families, because we may be up for orders next summer. This year will be an exercise in letting go and letting God!

Wow everyone's plans look so great. Well I THOUGHT I had it all figured out..... and then I read Serendipity, and then my very mature 10.5 year old daughter read Serendipity and her eyes lit up. I am going to research this a little more but it looks so beautiful and seems just right for her.
For my 12 yr old son I am looking into Winterpromise Adventures in Sea and Sky. He is big into boats and planes and WWII history right now. I am also trying to figure out what Boy Scout Merit Badge books I can coordinate with it.
For my 8, 6, and 4 year old I am a little stumped at the moment. I am thinking the three R's but very relaxed. Maybe a monthly theme.
I better get my act together How did it get to be almost August already???

Wow Theresa, your plans look great! I'm still... planning.

We hope to start on August 26th with our year of celebrating the boys' Papa and all his interests: farming, Cowboys Indians, Sports, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electricity, Planes, the Navy, and Sports.

Thanks to many ladies here I've got a good head start on books to get!

Add Right Start, Montessori Language, a few poems and our Atrium/Bible/Saints/Cathechism lessons and hopefully that's our year!

I won't tell you how long I looked at that unit --- thinking that could be our year! It looks like so much fun for boys! I think mine are too young, so I'll go back to it! You'll have to report back and let us know how you like it!

NO. I will not go look at that website.

I will not second (millionth!) guess myself.

No, I won't look at that seas ans sky program

I will not sit here figuring up how to spend the last $132.53 of the fund dh and I allotted for curriculum could be spent towards it.

I won't do it. I'll picture all the mocha frappacino lattes with an extra shot and whip cream that coudl get me... or ...

nevermind, the printer is already printing book lists...

We had an awesome time doing their Animal Worlds this year with my 6 yr old. I just didn't want to do the next steps up for him in that program, and I really want to do SotW again.

But that Sea and Sky program does look like great fun for older crew. And I have a few older crew members...

It does look great for older boys, doesn't it?? I had looked at it last year for him and decided not to and combined my older two. But now that I am looking at Literature For The Young Lady for my young lady, I thought something totally BOY for him would be great. I just got the go ahead from my husband. I will let you all know how it goes.

ps. Hi Maryan!! How are you?? I had read your thread on your plans for your boys. What a beautiful thoughtful year you have planned out for them. And what a great tribute to their Grandfather.

Martha, I will have to check out Animal Worlds. It is good to hear that you had a positive experience.

Thanks Kristen! We're doing fine. Looking forward to making our Papa scrapbook.

And I can totally feel Martha's sentiment about the budget and drooling!

And don't you think Winter Promise's website is like visiting Jennifer Macintosh's! It's just attractive and full of great stuff!

They also seem to be one of the rare boy focused curriculums!
