Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am using CHC grade one, however I really want to do a book of centuries so I am thinking of incorporating the CHC bible timeline project into the beginnings of a book of centuries. Instead of making laminated cards I am thinking of making pages. I am wondering if anyone has ever considered this before. Is so, did it turn out a good idea? Thanks!

When I did CHC with my daughter, one of her favorite things to do was put those timeline cards in order. The hands on aspect of that she just loved. I am starting this with my 7yo now and my daughter is really excited to get those cards out again.....three years later!

According to the Simply Charlotte Mason website, CM didn't start the book of centuries until 4th grade. I tried it at the end of 1st grade with my daughter and she didn't get it at all. We were putting in other things we were reading about, not the bible timeline cards. We put in pictures and dates, but she didn't understand what all those numbers meant yet. She could put pictures in order of happening, but not those big numbers.

Now, with my 7yo son we have a very simple one-page timeline chart, and that has been very doable. I made a column (six I think)for each 100 years, and made rows just over 1" in height (maybe 9?). We have been doing American history and he will draw a little picture in the box under the correct 100 years, and then copy the date and a word or two to know what it is. Like for Jamestown he drew a fort, wrote Jamestown and the year in the box.

I don't know if that simple chart can translate into the bible timeline or not. It just seems much easier for my 1st grader to understand, than pages and pages in a binder.

What I did was make the timeline cards as they described (I couldn't bring myself to cut up a good book so I used this site http://www.biblical-art.com/ to find art for each card).

And then I made smaller copies to put in a Book of Centuries. I used one of those binders with the cover pocket and inner pockets and we store the larger cards in the front and back pockets (Old Testament at the front, New Testament at the back). I printed out the timeline pages from simplycharlottemason.com and placed them in sheet protectors so that I could use the sheet protectors as pockets if I wanted.

I found that my dd got more out of the cards that year then she did the BoC although she did like matching the cards to the pictures in the binders.

However, the BoC has been handy and she's getting more from it now. (she's in grade three and I haven't tried to do more then 'which century does this belong in? for dates)

I can use the sheet protectors as pockets, which makes it a good place to store Saint's cards and other such items (each in the appropriate century pocket). I also keep Mary Daly's First Timeline Cards in the appropriate pockets and I keep various timelines tucked in the front and back pockets.
