Hi,
Does anyone use BrainPOP? Is it worth the money? Is BrainPop Jr any good? Would I want both, with having an almost 10 and a 6 yo? Will most of the things on regular BP be over the 6yo's head?
Any reason why would I choose the Homeschool option for $195 and not the Family option for $99?
Thanks!

We have enjoyed Brainpop in the past, and used it alot. We can't afford it right now. We had the family option and it was fine for our amount of use.
I do notice that one of the free movies right now is about hurricanes... very timely!

hi~
i love brainpop jr. for my 7 year old. have not tried the reg. brainpop. the family membership is for one user (login) per household. the homeschool version is for many users in a houshold. that is what i was told.
i think it is worth is. i like it, because it is not too busy, or crazy with ads & stuff.

We've used it when we get a free link from something else, but not subscribed for a whole year. My dd's really like it. The older is about a 3-7th grade level, junior for about K-2. My 6yo likes both, but my younger doesn't enjoy the regular side. I've had to be a little careful in supervising, especially on the older side, but even the junior has subjects like divorce and drugs - nothing that's a big secret, but I might like to clarify our values regarding those things. It's a fun resource, but I haven't used it as a curriculum supplement, mostly just let the dc play with it when we have it. It's amazing what K has retained from the casual use.

I can't get past the price. We can do a lot of netflix and free stuff from the library and hands on stuff too for that amount of money.

We like BrainPOP. I went a year without a membership, making use of the featured videos, but then I decided to do the membership. I only have three kids, so we opted for the family membership and they share. We have a cable modem, so we usually log in once and leave it logged in on an open tab. Family memberships can only log in on one computer up to three times a day, so if you have a dial-up connection this might not be the most cost effective idea. My youngest uses BrainPOP, Jr. and my older two use regular BrainPOP. My son is a very visual learner and uses it the most. I like that they send a newsletter to make you aware of recently added videos and monthly featured videos.
I would suggest making use of as much of the free features on the site before you decide on the membership. Or you can ask a generous family member for a subscription as a Christmas gift. That's what we usually do.

What would be the advantage to having the Homeschool subscription as opposed to the FAMILY if:
#1~ you only have one computer to use?
#2~ you have cable hook up for internet?
Wouldn't you be able to pay for the family membership, and use it for all of your kids (I only have two left hsing), Wouldn't we be able to just log on and leave it open all day to use when we need?

If you only have one computer, there is no advantage, unless you tend to turn your computer on and off a lot during the day. The only true advantage of the Homeschool subscription would be if you want more than one child using BrainPOP at the same time on different computers. I believe you also have unlimited access, meaning you can log in and out to your heart's content.
But again, do take advantage of the free material on the site before you decide to buy a membership. There are new featured videos offered all the time based on holidays and events during the year. I think the featured video changes each week.

Oh, okay - the family membership limits the amount of times you can log in/out each day? Thank you! I couldn't find anything on the site that was explaining the difference between the memberships. So with a DSL line and a central desktop, keeping a tab open works just fine, no logging in and out. NOW it makes sense - again, thanks so much!!
