Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Very, very encouraging to read and find many situations fitting to our northern Canadian lifestyle. Have been educating at home for 10 years and now have a new dilema. (Isn't something always coming up??!) I find myself with some health problems and the unschooling mentality gives me a "burnout-free" breath of fresh air. What I'm looking at is finding some magazines that the children ages 5 to 15 would be interested in. Not easy, when Evolution or twaddle is intertwined with some scientific facts that enrich and inspire. ANYONE HAVE SOME FAVORITE MAGAZINES FOR KIDS?

Lorelei~
Welcome to the 4Real Board! I'm sure you'll love it here.

Here are some past threads with lots of suggestions:

Magazine Suggestions

What magazines do you keep around?

kids magazine subscriptions

And, we've been happy with lots of the magazines that we check out from the library from Cricket Magazine Group. They have helpful information on the website to help you decide what you need for an interest or age range.

Right now, my 7 year old dd gets Click....it's listed at the 3-6 age range, but I want it for her to read on her own, so I order "down" an age range.

My dd-age 6 gets Big Backyard and LOVES it!

We've received a few as gift subscriptions for the early reader set and we have found that the science/animal themed magazines are more interesting and less twaddly than the "literature" magazines. My son has gotten Ladybug and Big Backyard this year and we vastly preferred Big Backyard. We just switched his Ladybug to Click to see if its better. The nice thing about the Cricket group magazines is you can change subscriptions really easily--if you've gotten the wrong focus for the age of you find you want the next magazine up or down.
