Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone else have trouble keeping spiral bound books in good shape?

Any suggestions for what to do when they start coming apart?

I have several spiral bound books that I really want to use with other children but the covers are already coming off (or are off)and pages are starting to come out. My Right Start manuals are getting the most wear - and our Lingua Mater isn't in the greatest shape but it is still intact - I have three more children who I want to have use that book. I also really want to protect my "Literature Alive" book too - I love it!

If you have spiral bound books and they are in good condition - what is your secret? Where do you keep them?

Donna, I hate spiral bound books.   They slip, they slide, they never stand up on a shelf and they always end up ragged and nasty. I only own one, Spanish for Cruisers : Boat Repairs & Maintenance Phrase Book and I have it stored flat under the printer right now. So, very little help there! But have you tried laminating the cover with something like contact paper or even making new covers for the ones that are missing, maybe by pasting pretty paper onto one of the blank first pages and contact papering the entire thing?

Also, doesn't OfficeMax type stores rebind books like that? Anybody know?

I dislike spiral bound books, too. They don't beckon, I can't read the spine, and they do mess up more easily than bound books, IMHO.

That's a good idea, Jennifer, getting something rebound.

I dislike some of the larger bound books that will not lay open flat and are so heavy.

I have not done this with spiral bound but I have taken a bound manual, had the binding cut off and had it 3 hole punched at Staples. It was probably $3 (it's been a year). I was very happy with the result. You can get the spiral removed and the edges cut and get them hole punched but you'll need to be sure that the hole punch won't punch out something important if you don't have much of a margin on the page.

If you have several smaller one's that you get done, you could put them in one 3 ring binder with dividers.

Just a thought,
