I just received the three I ordered from CBD, and I have to admit I am a bit disappointed. I usually do so much research before I buy anything, but somehow I missed that these have a definite Protestant slant. Maybe I was distracted by the beauty of the books they publish... 
Has anyone used these guides successfully with modifications? If so, which ones, and can you tell me about it?

I have used it as more of a reading list. It was years ago before I was aware of other options and we usually just read the books and used some of the questions for oral discussion. Kind of an expensive reading list!

Mrs.M - I've used three of their guides and really like them. I used the Geography through Lit. Holling C. Holling set, the Horse unit, and I used the American History as a book guide sort of like Anne.
I just skipped books/questions that seemed questionable.

Okay--that's sort of what I thought. (((sigh))) Honestly, I'd rather have a secular point of view. The history guide is particularly biased...

Which ones did you order? Are we talking American and World history?
I've been so tempted to order the History of Science for my son. Other than Galileo, I'm wondering if that particular guide would need much modification?

It's the "Early American History" guide that will require the most modifications for me. The spine they are using is "America's Providential History," which I don't own and have never seen, but is described as "an evangelical Christian textbook." From the reviews I've read it's full of misinformation. The guide also includes such gems as "The First Five Principles," one of which is "Conscience is the most sacred property."
The Geography and Ancient History guides are the other two I bought, and I haven't had a thorough going over of them yet. I hope to use the Geography as a companion to the Holling C. Holling books, and the Ancient History with "All Ye Lands."

I really like the Geography book........I like the composer one, too......I just could not use it for me because we had already studied all of those composers.
I like the science one and have used it once......and plan to use it again. I like the books they have on the list. It was easy to adjust..........we made a notebook out of it.
I tweak almost everything I use. I tweak these..........I do not follow to the letter.....the natural rebel that I am.
I have the California one, too.......(actually, it is Willa's: I am storing it for her  )......and it looks good.....though I never used it because we had already read the books.

Chari, how does the California guide treat the founding of the Missions? Would using it require a lot of modification?
