Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks Theresa!

I particularly like this quote about college students who have been homeschooled:
Quote:

The results demonstrate that home-schooled students are able to successfully adapt emotionally, interpersonally, and academically to their first, and most challenging, semester in college. That is probably because, having had the consistent teaching and support of a family and a community, they have developed strengths and convictions that provide a bridge over the troubled waters of a multitude of challenges and temptations.

and this one really makes me smile:
Quote:

The traditional school environment required “Stepford Child” control, and the teaching techniques required for a group of thirty do not necessarily assist the learning needs and talents of each individual student. So, instead of drugging kids to be docile, perhaps we should turn to the successes of home-schooling.

That's a very thoughtful post. I wish more people would think through an issue in such a balanced way.

Wow, I'm surprised. (I haven't read the whole thing yet but glanced through). It wasn't too long ago that I heard her telling someone not to homeschool their child.

I'm so glad that she's changed her mind! I think I'll post a link on my blog!

Ya know, now that you mention it, I remember that too! I was disappointed that she was less than thrilled about homeschooling. I think it proves that with time, and by our example, people CAN see the fruits of homeschooling, and why it is such a good choice! I've had many people in our family less than thrilled about our homeschooling after YEARS of watching us, tell me that we made the best choice for our kids. I always consider that a little "way to go" from God that we've endured this race, and though VERY difficult, followed His calling to finish it!

I told my attorney to use her article in our custody case!

Knowing how well homeschoolers respond to negative opinions, I'm sure the thousands of emails and letters helped reshape that original opinion.

Even my husband, who doesn't like Dr. Laura at all, was psyched to hear this. It made me laugh..she's ok as long as she's agreeing with him.
