Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is it possible to send a child to school for 2 days a week. I have tried all the schools in my area and they all say they are full. I would like to get a job to supplement our income.

What age is your child?

I imagine Prek and K are more accommodating to a two day a week schedule. There is part time enrollment for higher grades here, but that's not a certain number of days, but a certain number of classes...each day.

DD is 9 and has special needs. so you would be better going mornings only instead of 2 whole days i presume.

You do have to offset the advantages of extra income against the costs/stresses of sending a child to school. While sending a child to public school is cheaper than day care, it's not free, and by the time you've factored in transportation to and from (and to and from work), possible after- or before-care, her school clothes, your work clothes, lunches, etc, you may find that you're not bringing home enough real "extra" to make it worth it, especially if you're only planning to work two days a week. Part-time jobs can have a way of eating into your time and energy beyond the paid hours, too.

Just some thoughts. I teach in a high-school co-op through our homeschooling group (not quite the same thing, and my oldest daughter is "at work" with me, as a student), and I have to say that, good as the experience has been, that one day a week has been very disruptive to our homeschooling in many ways. So it is worth considering whether whatever extra income you might bring home would be worth all that . . . Maybe it would, but it's good to consider and weigh your options carefully.

HTH,

Sally

You might look into a "home option program" thru your public school district. Here in Colorado we have a couple. I didn't like it because it was too school-ish, but it might be just what you need. Here's the one in Athe one in Aurora and here's the one we were in last year for Jefferson County's HOPE program
