Any advice from you faith filled ladies on this? A friend of mine has 2 young children (oldest will be K next year) and is expecting. She longs to homeschool and for all the "right" reasons, especially to have a curriculum focused on the faith. Her husband was slow to warm up to the idea but eventually did. Here's the part that we find surprising. He then heard the message "send them to school" repeatedly during adoration. My friend wants to do the will of God (even if it is not what she really "wants"). However, she wants to make sure, as she put it,that "it is HIS answer and not the evil one tricking us". Her oldest attended preschool at our parish Catholic school and we have had the thought that perhaps God wants their very faith filled family in this school to help the school to grow to be more authentically Catholic. We have an amazing holy orthodox young pastor, but the school has not caught up to his level, so to speak.
Any opinions, suggestions, anything? I think she would appreciate any input.
Thanks so much!

Funny, this is exactly why I think I haven't been homeschooling. Every year we go through the Novenas-We love the idea of homeschooling and I've been through picking out curriculum for the kids (4th, 3rd, 1st and K and a 10 month old) but every year, the answer is No and I have to wonder if that's the reason.
My oldest wants to be a priest and he's very open about that possibility with his friends and has actually gotten a couple of them to consider that possibility. Also, i glean SOOOO much information on here that I've been able to pass on to different families that otherwise most likely would have missed those opportunities.
If she's going to homeschool, then it'll be a lot easier to do it now than later. I've found myself having a VERY hard time with the idea of leaving our "family" at school. I moved around growing up and this is the first time I've ever been able to put down roots and be a part of a community. This probably isn't a factor at all for your friend but I'm sure that if I had started out homeschooling from the get go the decision would have been a piece of cake.
The bottom line is that whatever decisions they're at peace with, is the answer and I'm sure God will make His will pretty clear in some form or another.

While this may be true, one family can't change a whole school. That's a lot of pressure for a child. I'm not suggesting that the family is putting pressure on the child. It may be coming from schoolmates or it may be coming from within. Kids get influenced no matter how strong their faith.
We have issues with a local school. I grant it's a high school, but these things happen all over.
God bless you both as you continue to discern. We're all with you, discerning from year to year.

Interpreting a type of "mystical" experience should best be left up to the husband and a trusted spiritual advisor, I suppose. God doesn't normally speak to us in these types of ways. Extraordinary means require careful discernment, for sure.
I've been accused by priests before of being elitest because of wanting to home school, and told that if "all the good Catholic kids" are kept home, the whole school would suffer. That's an argument I've long considered, and it really bothers me. Where in Church history have children been asked to be missionaries?! Our responsibility as adults is to form our children, and that's not always best done in a school setting. In fact, when trying to figure out which college to go to, my family knew that the Jesuit school I got a big scholarship to was VERY liberal - and they suggested that I could be a good "orthodox" influence there... But I learned that an 18 year old is NOT prepared to debate PhD's in philosophy & theology!!! We have to learn our faith and be formed in it before we are ready to really take on dissidents.
Sorry for the length, it's an issue close to home!

When we were discerning Catholic vs home school, we were told the same thing by the priests, here. I had the same response! But, I've also come to realize that to have an effect in the schools (to help them to become better and more authentically Catholic) then it certainly helps to have a kid enrolled and to be an active parent. It's a TOUGH decision.

ditto ditto ditto! I am SO GRATEFUL for the amazing faithfilled (and often times larger than ours)families and friends that we have encountered in this, our first ever year with a child in school. I actually have felt like my oldest ds was MORE subjected to poor (homeschooled) influences as a homeschooled adolescent than in the structure and framework of an authentically Catholic school. but that is another post.
I'd listen to the dh. The only time my dh heard God's voice during adoration was when He said to marry me . Seek counsel with a wise Priest, but ultimately, it is the decision of the head of the home (normatively, IMHO).
She could always pull them out later if it was not working out.

Thank you to all who responded. KristinaP, or anyone, do you have a suggestion for a particular Novena to pray for this intention?
Any futher comments are still welcome as well. I will pass these on to my friend. Thanks for your time. This forum has been quite helpful to me in many ways, especially since I know only one other Catholic homeschool family in our area.
God bless,
Dana

Dana,
I've done the St. Padre Pio Novena to the Sacred Heart twice and he answered very quickly and clearly. Results may vary but I was rather surprised at how quickly I got answers
Here's a link St. Padre Pio Novena to the Sacred Heart
