Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know it is early to be thinking about this but we are trying to plan our summer vacation. We want to see Jamestown, Williamsburg etc. I would love to fit a Catholic homeschooling conference in there. Is it a big conference? Does it have a big vendor hall? We have a huge homeschooling convention here in Fl every May. It is incredible, although it is not Catholic. I would love to attend a Catholic one. Would it be worth making the trip up?

I did not go last year, so perhaps it has grown some, but in the past it would not fit the bill of a big conference. The vendor hall was a disappointment to me, especially compared to the NACHE conference which was in VA for years. That conference had a huge vendor hall. IHM only had a handful of vendors. I can't remember buying anything there. The main focus is on Seton materials since they put it on.

IHM switched to a larger venue last year. I know some folks here went, I am sure someone else will chime in if I am mistaken.

I haven't been to an IHM conference in two years but the ones I went to were a HUGE boost to my Faith. The talks were more on the spiritual side with homeschooling talks sprinkled in there. For me, it was like a mini retreat with a homeschool flavor. Confessions were offered, enrollment of the Brown Scapular and maybe a few other devotions. If you look at their website and look over past talks, you get an idea of what they offer. The vendor hall is very limited and repetitive in many regards but the talks are amazing. I used to take my teens and they came back excited about their Faith and thankful to be homeschooled.

FWIW.

ETA: It's about an 8 hour drive from where we live now and I would seriously consider going if we weren't planning a trip to see the Holy Father instead.

We have gone since the begining and the past 2 years have been in a much bigger facility, space-wise. They have had a good selection of vendors since the move and it is definitely worth the time to attend.
All vendors are Catholic and the talks are very good. Just like any conference it has it's good and not so good points but having been to the two other Catholic Conferences in the area (NACHE and Cathoilic Homeschoolers of PA) this one is the mid range and very family friendly. There is no admission fee and plenty of parking ...

If you really want Catholic resources, the vendor hall might be nice. I can't compare it to much, but not having to sift through the secular materials might help you focus on just Catholic stuff if that's really what you want.

Our convention has everything you can think of in the vendor hall except Catholic related things. It is huge. Although that is where I bought Elizabeth's book a couple of years ago They have a lot of great lectures with a christian theme. It would be nice to have a Catholic based conference. The "mini-retreat" part sounds great. I could use one right now Thanks for your input!
