I was wondering if anybody here has a membership with Paperbackswap.com. If so, I was wondering if it would be possible to get a group of swappers together on the site to swap literature, Catholic homeschool materials etc.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

I'm on paperbackswap - I think I'm amyablemom there. Other than putting each other on our buddy lists, I don't know of another way to get a group of us together over there, do you? I think that would be neat.

I'm there, too, under the same user name as here.

I don't have all the logistics down yet, but I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a sort of "lending library" for 4real homeschoolers through paperbackswap. One way it could work is we all get onto a buddy list and we post books we have on our shelves for homeschooling. Let's say, I post Pride and Prejudice. Someone from the buddy list orders it from me and uses it in their homeschool. When they are done with it, they repost it for somebody else. The only way I see something like this working is:
1) People would have to be willing to post quality literature and part with the good books for the sake of receiving other good books.
2) People would have to repost the books once they are read.
3) There would have to be a fool-proof, easy way of getting the buddy-list together and identifying other 4real buddies
The beauty of this is that our books stay within the group making it easier to post books that are hard to part with if we did not see them again. For instance, I would not normally post any of the Catholic books I've read for fear of maybe wanting to read it again...but if I were to post within a group who would then post that book again after THEY read it, then it would be easier to part with beautiful literature.
Note: I'm thinking this out while I type it. I'm throwing the idea out there. If anyone thinks it would not work, please feel free to reel me back to reality.
Blessings,
Elizabeth

How does this work when other members may have posted certain books on their wish lists? Can you limit the availability of you books to your buddy lists?

The moderator assigned to me on PBS informed me that it does not work. The moment you post a book, if it's on somebody else's wishlist, it automatically gets assigned to the first person on the wishlist. That's one reason I have so few books on my bookshelf. The moderator said that she knew of some people on the site that realized they were swapping books amongst eachother and to keep it that way, they started an offsite forum where once a month they would swap book-for-book.
Probably the thing to do is maybe make 4real members your buddies on PBS and that way you can see their bookshelves and wishlists. Again, the problem is the wishlists. For instance, I looked up one of the ladies who posted on this thread and realized I had 3 books on my shelf at home on her wishlist; 2 Love and Logic books, and another that I can't remember. Now, the question becomes, how do I give her those books and still receive a point? I don't think I can do that. The only way she would get them is if she's first in line on the wishlisters. This is a noodle-scratcher.
Blessings,
Elizabeth

Actually, you CAN do this - at least I know you could in the past! Instead of simply posting books, what you do is going into this persons wish list (hoping it's me, lol!!) and where the book is listed, it should say "post this book" or something similar. If you do it from inside the person's wish list, it should go right to her.
Let me go check on this and see. I'll be back if it's different.
You *could* also PM the person, have her "buddy" you a credit, and you simply mail her the book, bypassing the system, but I honestly don't know if that is frowned upon at PBS.
