Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds12 has great trouble in paying attention to his work and staying on track. There is nothing wrong with him once he starts and his work has captured his attention it is just getting him to that point. He particularly has trouble with his maths which is his least favourite.

Last week I started something which is having great success and I am so hoping it will continue and break him of his bad habits. I have a little timer that I can set and then it bips when time is up. I set up a desk in his room so he is away from the main table, the desk is all of six steps away. I sent him to his desk with his copywork, set the timer for ten minutes and told him to finish before then, he did then he came back, I sent him off with his spelling and repeated the same, it worked With his maths he sat next to me and for each sum (long multiplication) I gave him three minutes once again it worked

I'm sure those of you who has a child who procrastinates and can take ALL morning to do a little work will realise what joy this was. As for the maths, wow!! I have been trying the 20 minute lesson for months and even that only brought one sum in 20 minutes I am really hoping this will help him learn how to work better.

What a great idea! My dd8 is developing a dawdling interest, KWIM? I'll have to try this!

Isn't it a relief when we find a tool that helps us to get the job done efficiently and effectively? You hit on two points that have helped our family too, Erin. We use timers for skill building work. We also adjust the time down to what the child can handle successfully...even if that is 3 minutes...and build from there. At least, that is our plan but sometimes I forget to implement it . Thanks for the reminder!

Love,
