Does anyone have experience with the Seton CAT tests? Opinions?
Thanks!

We did the second grade CAT last year.
Seton sent it quickly but the results got lost. I had to call to follow up.
The test went well. It was a positive experience for ds. It was fairly short and fun for him. Being able to watch him answer each question helped me see what he did and didn't know and what test taking skills to work on with him. It was painful at times watching him answer things wrong that I knew he knew.
The results were less than impressive for me only because I guess I don't understand statistics well enough. He would get a section totally right and only place in the 60th or 70th percentile. It bothered me. When I questioned this Seton said that was how the "curve" came out when the testing groups took them. Hmmmmm, not a great bell curve.
Anyhow, in the future I will probably do an Iowa but for second grade and a first testing experience it was OK.

I use the CAT from Seton to comply with the state (PA) homeschooling law to test in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade. I use it because it was recommended to me for my special needs guy as being the shortest. All my children prefer a shorter test to a longer one. If it wasn't our law here, I probably wouldn't do standardized tests at all.

We have to test here to fulfill state law as well. Otherwise, I wouldn't do standardized test. I already know what my kids know! I'm with them all day!
I've been using a local testing company but I think they've gone out of business so I think I'll try Seton.
Thanks!

We've used them often, and they are fast, both to send the tests, and to get the results back. We've thankfully never had our results lost though!
But whenever I've had ANY questions at all, the customer service has always been EXCELLENT! I've been very pleased. I hope this helps!

Like Tracy, we have used Seton for the last few years.
They sent the tests within the week I ordered them, and scored the results quickly. Testing is mandatory in our state, and I like the ease of giving the test to the children. I had used the Iowa before. Hope this helps!
