Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've got this new idea up my sleeve.      I have heard Prayer Time and Gathering Time mentioned a few times--I am sure it was here(where else do I go?    )
Our mornings are just so hard to get my two kids together to start anything with even a tad of structure. They get up later, I get lost in the kitchen, they start playing and I am stuck trying to get them to leave a fun time to start, uh, some schoolwork. We have done some pm schooling and it does work some of the time. But, I really would like school to be a priority in the am--at least LA and math. Sooo, I am going to need to plan what we are going to do. I was thinking of having some themes, like in July we will read a few patriotic books, learn the pledge and sing the national anthem. We will have prayer for sure, but I need some other things to draw them in. My kiddos are 4 and 9. I don't want this to take a lot of time--right now I spend a lot of time "planning" what I need to try to accomplish each week. One more thing will put me over the edge.
So ideas for themes, prayer time, songs, small projects, maybe 30 minute videos--educational of course, hints, help? I hope to spend 30 minutes tops on this. I'd love it to be 10 but I am trying to relax and have some fun with them.
Thanks in advance(again)!
Anne

mine are a wee bit younger but I set up a "learning basket" with a monthly theme in it... this month we hatched butterflies so of course tons of butterfly books ,videos etc. each kiddo also has a learning shelf- my 3 yo has a lot of montessiri actvities on his, dd 6 has books she is reading, stencils, some math manipulatives etc...

the general rule is no free play until before lunch but they can pick anything from those areas in the am...it keeps them (usually) from getting into big games and it is easier to transition into any lessons we have for dd plus ds has "learning activities just like big sis" to keep him occupied.

so they know what to do and where to be (with a lot of reminding ) while mommy is making breakfast or cleaning up or nursing or whatever

then i can come in and ask dd what she she is learning/reading about...we can snuggle on the couch and talk about it or read/sing etc...then move into whatever i had planned...(if it was an ideal day where i had a plan )

i dont take a lot of planning just hit the library website to see what books are in and pick them up at our next visit, browse throegh my piles...er files i might google or hit HOAC for some activities to do our leave out for dd- she really likes 3-part cards so i print out ahead ones that match up with what we are doing

i probably spend less time planning than it took to type one handed with baby on shoulder

since it is sort of on the side activity i just follow interests/seasons for themes
our learning baskets for may- Mary/gardening
june-berries/bears, july pirates/lighthouses, etc...

good luck God Bless-Maggie
