Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have just been looking at the VA IHM Conference and thinking HOW do they do this? It's free to the public (and I'm assuming Seton probably underwrites much of it) but I'm just curious. Here we are planning the Denver conference (at which Elizabeth and KimF are speaking) -- I'm working on the Teen Track -- and there is no way we could ever charge nothing!

And the IHM has great speakers and vendors... what's the secret?

I don't know, Mary... but it is nice for the attendees!

Dulles Expo is VERY expensive. NACHE/Family Expo couldn't swing it. I wonder, too. I think donations? Big donor?

They ask for donations, recommending $10/person. I think that Seton pays for it, perhaps with the help of some bigger donors. I wonder if many of the speakers, especially the priests, are personal friends of Seton, and charge nothing or very little. Of course, the other speakers have to be compensated. And I am sure their vendor fees don't bring in a lot of money.

Interesting question.

Yes, there is a suggested donation and most people will donate because of that. A lot will pay the $10 but it is amazing the number that will contribute significantly over that amount. There probably are a good number of BIG donors as well.

I also think that as Molly mentioned a good number of those speakers do not charge them a fee for speaking because of their connections to Seton.

Also, I wonder what the fee is for exhibitors? They get a lot of vendors so that would contribute significantly.

It is interesting to note that there is a charge for the Cleveland IHM conference (there is usually one other one somewhere in the country besides the VA one).
Singles $20
Couples $30
Teens (12-18) $5
Grandparents $5

I have attended the IHM Confrence for several yaers before moving overseas. Usually i had one or more moms along-we carpooled & stayed w/ my MIL overnight. All of us payed the suggested donation fee. But we also bought heaps of Setons materials-I bought the Faith & Freedom readers over 4 or 5 years. Perhaps the books sales generated enough income to justify the cost.
