Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm reluctant to post this, thinking that perhaps our good fortune in schooling will dissipate into thin air because I've said anything ... but here goes.

I've studied in great detail the method of Laura Berquist, CHC proponents, and 4Reallearners. I've tried unschooling (usually with a tiny baby in tow) and day-to-day-in-the-books-style schooling. None of it works. And ALL of it works. I don't like MODG, CHC, unschooling or strict schooling by itself. I like a blend. And, better yet, my KIDS like the blend we've sort of compiled. I don't even know how to explain it to you all. We're not just using a combination that uses, for instance, CHC for history and 4Real for science. We use CHC and History Links for American/World history plus my own book and craft ideas.

I feel so liberated! And I can't believe what we are accomplishing (I still have to bring them up-to-speed on writing, but we're getting there). I just hope that nothing tips the balance of our new-found euphoria. I've been homeschooling for 8 years now and have never felt so happy with the way things are working out for us! Is this what homeschooling is supposed to be? I pray that it is!

Good for you! I am happy you are so joyful!

Enjoy it. I think after 8 years you should be able to celebrate your successes and realize how well you know your children.

God bless! What a loving mother you are!

Marybeth

Wonderful, Tina! Enjoy it while it lasts!    I think that, like you said, for many (maybe even most) of us what works is a combination of things. The challenge lies in finding that right combination for your particular family, and even for each particular child, for each season in your collective life. So at having found that blend.
