Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I don't know whether this merits the prayers of all of you faithful ladies, especially in light of the horrible tragedy down south, but......

My dh and I just retired from 14 years of working with the teens in our parish in various capacities. It is a welcome change for me, but it has also been very emotional to let go and move on. It has also been a huge chore getting all the 'stuff' ready to pass over to the new youth ministers and to train them, because.....

We found out a few weeks ago that we are expecting our 6th child!!!! While this is a wonderful blessing to us, I am so very sickly. I feel like my life is falling apart around me. Me on the couch all day, kids watching way more T.V. than normal, meals....well, meals are less than average as you can imagine. What was supposed to be the first year of homeschooling without me working (oh, how I've imagined how GREAT it was all going to be), has turned into a big mess, literally! The schoolroom is a disaster and I can't summon up enough energy to get out there and get it together. The kids keep bringing up the first day of school!!! I just say it will probably be postponed a bit. I should be fine by the 12th week or so, I just don't know when that will be as I don't really know how far along I am. If it is what I think, I should not be this sick yet!!

A dear friend took all of my children for the afternoon to play in her huge backyard - God bless her!

Not meaning to complain.....there is much worse in the world than this!
Please, if you would, just pray for a smooth transition for the new youth ministers at our parish and for me to endure through this sickness! Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS, Erica Blessed are you! Praying for a smooth transition for the new youth ministers and for you to endure through this sickness. This too shall pass. School can wait. Your kids are learning all about laying down (literally on the couch) one's life for another (new life).

Praying, Erica! I admire your willingness to accept the suffering of early pregnancy...and I know you'll be a great example to your children and to the teens you've given so many hours to. They will see that you've put family first, and that will make a difference to them later on.

Hugs!

Dear Erica,

Congratulations!!!

Just stay on the sofa, and direct traffic from there when necessary...Get lots of rest, drink lots of lime Perrier (works for me when I'm sick in the first trimester) and remember, you are making a baby, it's hard, nauseating work at this stage but you can do it...Hang in there...You're in my prayers...

Oh Erica, first off...congratulations!

I'm so empathetic with feeling sickly during the first trimester. It was just a year ago that I literally couldn't stand or walk easily during my first trimester. Some days I couldn't even leave my bedroom. My husband was also deployed for some of that time. When I look back on it now, I treasure the many kindnesses that my children showed me. Each child grew in charity, giving to me. I remember the puppet shows at the foot of the bed, the play's in the bedroom, the books on tape (I couldn't even read because it would exasperate my naseau .) My daughter upped her meal preparations, my sons increased their help around the home...I WAY lowered my bar . It wasn't easy and it wasn't pretty

Another big gift to our family from that experience is that we saw holes in our family life, places that needed habit formation attention. But that had to wait. Once I began feeling better, we were pumped to have our family better prepared for the coming of baby.

Our joyful prayers are with you and your family, Erica. Hang in there! You are growing a baby which is infinitely important work. You are mothering your little ones beautifully and setting a fine example. Talk about real learning .

Love,

Erica what wonderful news! Congratulations.

I think you have gotten a lot of good advice here. Just let it all go. The house will get cleaned up when you feel better and this is a great time for the kids to learn to pitch in.

Do you have family around who can help? Nothing like a day with Grandma to keep the kids happy and give mommy a break. If you weren't 3000 miles away I would come and get the kiddies.

I think we should pick a state and we should ALL move there. Help each other out all the time. It would be like a Catholic Disneyland. Where should we go???

Erica, congratulations! I am just now writing up some things for myself in case I get pregnant again. Maybe something here will help you. This is what I have so far.2005-09-01_123907_Tips_for_Grand_Multips.doc

(Sorry, that link looks ugly, not sure what to do about that. )

Thank you ALL for your comforting and beautiful words!! You are wonderful ladies and I greatly appreciate all the advice and will try to follow it!! Bridget, you are a 'supermom' getting your thoughts down like that with a brand new baby!!

I am actually feeling much better today, no doubt because of your prayers! I do have my parents close by and Dh is still in town to help in the evenings. He was supposed to be working out of town by now, but things have been delayed a bit - God's timing in this pregnancy is, once again, perfect, in comparison to the timing *I* have (had) in mind!!!!

It has been hard for me to get more than a "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph" uttered as I get out of bed each morning, but I am going to try very hard to offer up this wee bit of 'suffering' of mine for the huge amounts of suffering going on in the south right now!!!

Thank you again for your prayers!!

I have done that four times today! Twice as Christian and twice as Michael. I read yours and wondered why Michaella was calling Erica "Erica!" I'm hoping for a computer of my own someday...BTW, I deleted Kayla's post

Erica,
I did a search of "Congratulations" to see if I had indeed missed your post sharing the big news and I had!
I would have been embarrassed at my lack of memory had I seen my own note of congrats to you here...
Hope your feeling better now and that the transition for the new youth ministers went well!

Erica,

I missed the post too. Unfortunately, I've had several "away from the computer" periods lately...

Congratulations, and I do hope that you're feeling better! MY plans for the school year rarely line up with God's plans for our year... Each time this reality hits, I remind myself that He's in charge and knows what's best. Keeping you in our prayers...

Thanks so much for the continued prayers! I am feeling so much better (except for a nasty cold) now that I am almost 12 weeks. Aside from pregnancy related sickness, I am sick maybe once a year, so this cold is the pits! Things have almost gotten back to normal around here, though, and I just finished the finance reports for youth ministry. We will have our last meeting with the new youth ministers tomorrow morning and then I will be truly free!! Yippee!!! The mourning period was short lived because I didn't realize it while we were in the thick of things how much time that job took away from the kids and our homeschooling!! Anyway, thank you again! And for all you gals still in the middle of morning sickness....there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!
